50/4 FLE Ring Question

I recently took ownership of a Hasselblad 50/4 CF FLE lens. Just looking through the WLF I can see the split image come into focus whether the FLE ring is at infinity or .5m. All that is needed a small turn of the focus ring. What I'm saying is at infinity of the FLE ring the focus ring is near .7m ( focusing on something random close by ). When I turn the FLE ring to .5m the focus ring only needs to be turned slightly past .7m. I guess, I'm wondering if I should rely only on the split image? Or should I estimate my distance from subject and turn the FLE ring first, then use the focus ring to bring it all into focus.

I have a roll of trix 320 ( I can develop myself ) to run some tests.

Thanx--Bill

The recommended procedure (the Hasselblad manual, Wildi) is to set the FLE ring first based on distance to subject and then focus as usual.
