Can I use this lens on my H1 with H2 latest edition Firmware - which is supposed to effectively make this an H2 body

Yes, you can because it is HC lens, if it is HCD then you can't as D represents to Digital.

The HCD lenses work on the H3D, H3D-II, H4D ... and H2F camera (when used with a CF back).

The H3D and H2F both can also take film backs.
