Sinar 86H 48Mpx MS MFDB + eShutters

I have been accumulating Sinar kit almost forever, all on eBay, including a sliding back and an LC shutter, and a set of Apo-Digitars, and I now seem to be placing an order for an 86H and 6 eShutters!

This is seriously expensive kit, but it will allow me to use:

daylight live view for landscapes on my 10m Manfrotto Agnoscope Tripod
automated focus stacking for focus merge (landscape and macro)
painting with flash light, with movements and fast-sync sunlight control
pan-and-stitch with a Claus remote head

Has anyone else contemplated kit like this, and for what?

Some thoughts below
daylight live view for landscapes on my 10m Manfrotto Agnoscope Tripod
You'll need to add a 10m FW cable, a gennie for a laptop and an assistant to watch the laptop while you're up there focusing (or are you going to have the whole kit with the laptop on the tripod?)
Note that Live View outside can be done with other backs and ND filters
automated focus stacking for focus merge (landscape and macro)
The only camera that has this function is the AFi/ Hy6, unless you're building some kind of a motorised monorail?
painting with flash light, with movements and fast-sync sunlight control
For fast sync you'll need shutters that can do that such as the Rollei e-Shutters (if you can find any) Or to go with an MF body such as H2 or 645DF

What will this contraption give you that a simpler MF kit won't?

I might need a fiber-optic firewire extender if I put the 10m tripod on a cherry picker and operate the system from ground level.

Live view focusing from ground level, powered tripod head, calculate tilt before raising tripod.

I might just use a stackshot on the rear standard, or a Velmex system... An HY6 would be great if I could use it with my P3 lensboard-mounted lenses.

The Sinar eShutters will be available soon, and they sync at 1/250th so, at 50 ISO, you can usually manage without NDs.

Or to go with an MF body such as H2 or 645DF
I have an H4, but I want to be able to use movements with my full set of lenses

Honestly, this does not sound like it is about the pursuit of better photography, but rather the pursuit of gear that no one else has and thinking that will somehow set your photography apart. Maybe you can explain a bit more how this would help you?

If you want movements, stick your current DB with a sliding back on your P3 with/without E-shutter and go shoot

I know a few people who use cranes and cherry pickers going 20-30m high with their DBs on a small view cameras...no laptops, no cables, no troubles

I can't see how the Velmex motors can focus your P3 (although it seems pretty easy to just build a Velmex based camera)

I registered here because I got bored of this type of attitude on LuLa.

I am an engineer, and yes, I do want to accumulate the specialist kit and knowledge to enable my to undertake assignments the average pro could not do with amateur equipment. Perhaps I should call myself a photographic solutions provider rather than a photographer?

...but with simple everyday freelance work like photographing houses and villages, the ability to see over hedges and/or eliminate unwanted foregrounds would be a great bonus.

This is an option, but it is nice to be able to see what you are trying to shoot, and not to use a ND to throw away most of the light and then use 4 times as much flash power to compensate.

The 86H is only recommended for angles of incidence (light to sensor) of up to 35 degrees, so I will use the H4D-60 back when using full movement on the Apo-Digitar 47XL, which has a field of view 92 degrees.

I was thinking of buying a cheap, old Hasselblad back as a back-up system, but I thought the 86h would complement the Hasselblad, and be better in many circumstances.

One could build a multi-axis Velmex system that focuses, but you can, I hope, usually see something to focus on from ground level. I have not yet done any research into the weight and cost-effectiveness of a Velmex-based camera, but my 10m tripod is designed for cameras up to 10Kg.

I would like a small view camera on which I could use my existing set of P3 lensboard-mounted Apo-Digitars.

You posted an 80Mpx picture of the (UK) Houses of Parliament with Westminster bridge in the foreground, didn't you? a 10M tripod would, I think, improve that picture, as you would get separation between the bridge and the building.

The ND filter is only required for Live View. You won't need it for the actual shot so no need to compensate for anything

Angles of incidence wise, the only difference you should see between the H4D60 and the 86H will be due to the different sizes of the sensors. The pixel size etc is the same

No I did not post such a picture, I would not attempt walking around South Bank with a 10m tripod anyway, too may coppers asking questions there...but I know what you mean about shooting from higher grounds

Would it not be nice to be able to avoid winding down the 10M tripod and removing the ND filter between setting up the shot and taking the picture?

The relevant difference is that the 86h has micro-lenses, and this does make a difference.

The picture I was thinking about was similar to this (from the Seitz site):

There is, in this instance, I believe, a hotel behind where the picture was taken from, and 10M might not be enough to enable you to see the whole building above the bridge.

I am now off for the weekend... back on Monday.
