Leaf Digital Magazine modification to CF card?

Had anyone tried this? Seems like it would reduce power consumption, increase storage space, and reduce weight.

Upon quick inspection, the drive seems to be encased in a heavy metal case, but if it were opened, could a CF card on PATA card be swapped in?

Better yet, if you were adept with plastic mods, you could cut a slot in the case to make the CF card easily removeable to transfer the files without having to use the 1394 interface.

Thoughts?

In theory if you have an SSD in a 2.5" casing that has the same connector as the HD inside the DM then it should work, providing that it does not require any proprietary drivers and that is works on the same ampere/ voltage rates

Yair,

I'm presuming that HD is PATA, given the age. Most SSD's are newer and SATA. PATA SSD exists, but they are old, rare, and expensive. :)

Hence the solution for using a "modular" SSD using a CF card attached to a (cheap) CF-PATA adapter. I use one of these to replace the old 2gb HD in my digital photo frame.

Plus, this would allow the card to be removed and read directly via CF reader, if access were available.

The formatting structure is FAT16 as you've noted before, so I can't imagine there'd be any proprietary drivers.

So, you've bent the prongs on the metal shell, pulled off the lid, and nothing jumped out at you? ;)

I have two, and one was acting up yesterday. It would lock up the camera for a while during writing, then return to normal without storing the image. Hence, I got rethinking about sacrificing that one to replace the HD.
