Spent the last two days in LA getting my trailer worked on. Unfortunately had to leave, but the wildflowers are really starting to bust out.

I removed the lens cells from the Mamiya lens, mounted them in a Seiko #1 mechanical shutter (a unique sized shutter with front/rear threads of 42mm). Modified a helical and 3D printed a mount for it. Very sharp!

    Re: Technical Camera Images

New IQ150 although I don' t think that the back really mattered. I would have expected the same image with the 260 actually.

If there was any difference it was that the live view made dialing in the tilt with the 150 SK easier but I'd have probably got there with 2-3 iterations of shoot/review. That said, it was MUCH easier being able to see things in low light in real time vs fuzzy view with the IQ260. I do miss the extra resolution though - it's subtle but different.

Dante would be quite surprised, I hope, to learn that in 700 years he would be credited with the purchase of astonishingly magical equipment. Not as strange as "Pea Soup Euclid" I saw on the specials board of a cafe in Berkeley, but still.

Oh, beautiful shot, Graham. Your work consistently says "Look what's out there! Get your stuff outside and use it!"

Fall on Richland Creek from 2014. Would have preferred a bit more water, but the colors were peak.

Taken with a IQ260, Rodenstock 28mm, in 3 vertical stitches. I cropped out the edges on both due to the vignetting caused by Rodenstock's internal IC marker, but still ended up with around 6mm of usable shifting.

    Solar Eclipse Sky Dublin Bay
    Alpa STC IQ180 SK90 15mm back fall
Very dull day thick cloud layer obscured sky over much of Ireland and Britain, disappointing very many eclipse watchers. But, just in case i planned where the sun would be, chose lens and tripod position on beach near my house looking toward Howth head (locals call the peaks "mountains"). Maximum eclipse time passed, just getting colder and gloomier, when I saw slight hints of blue sky to the east. Took a few test shots to the west to get reasonable exposure, then very briefly the cloud thinned just enough to glimpse the solar disc obscured by the moon. Challenging to secure a reasonable exposure balance, hole in cloud so bright against thick dark surrounds. tried BW conversion, of which I have little experience. C1 8

Richland Creek in the prime of fall on a day with a great light. This was taken as a nodal pan with a IQ160 and SK35, added only a CL-PL.

Catching this creek in the fall with water is a rare event and to get a great sky along with it, well, about as good as it can get.

    Re: Technical Camera Images

Lower Antelope, this is the backside of what is called Angel's Arch. I didn't even know it had a light beam though it. The canyon now requires all visitors to have an escort, used to be photographers were just given a 2 hours pass and could roam it at will. 2 Hour pass still applies but now you are accompanied by a guide. According to the schedule they only allow one group of photographers every 2 hours, 8:20, 10:20 etc. but it was a little slow so we were able to go in around 9:10, even though there were just 2 of us. Guide was actually helpful, knew about light beams as well as other interesting things ... he's worked with a lot of photographers. Additionally, there are now two competing companies selling tours into the canyon, apparently a brother and sister didn't get along. One of them has built a large building, the other a smaller one. The smaller one now accepts credit cards, not sure about the other one. just thought I'd pass this along for anyone headed that way.

I've been going up to this spot for a week looking for a good sunset and got nothing. Last night I decided to stay in and it was an absolute cracker. Brilliant reds and great high clouds to spread the colour.
So I went back up again tonight and got the same shots I got all week.
Damn photography can be cruel sometimes.

I understand what is diffraction, but then I also see some great photographers are using f/22. See here. I observed, may images with 40 HR, he is using f/22.

lol. I know, guilty as charged. The 28mm does pretty well at that aperture and I didn't have time for a focus stack here, the guide was pushing to get me moving because my 2 hours was up. Still have one little section with a little softness, but turned out pretty good for a 20 second setup including Live View focus.

And I've found that using Focus Magic does an amazing job of mitigating minor diffraction softness with really good results.
