    WOW!!!
    Great, great image!
The balance of "abstraction" and the reference to "reality" is really striking here.

Just curious, what is the reason behind using focus stacking for this shot since it is not a macro shot? Just trying to learn

I'm curious too, about the magenta hue in the upper 2/3 of the image. Was this really something about the light?

    Re: Technical Camera Images

At an optimum aperture (for sharpness) for the SK 120 around f/11, the depth of field is too narrow to have everything including the grasses on the very bottom and the trees at infinity in complete focus.

I might have gotten what I wanted with tilt, not sure why didn't bother with this image. The number of frames I grabbed for the focus stack was overkill but I've been in situations before where I didn't get enough frames, so figured more data was better than less

    Kirk
Not the light (it was a partially cloudy morning), but the branches of the trees in the background. The meadow I was in (foreground) was mainly lichens and mosses growing on one particular species of tree. The farther back you go, the tree species changes, there are lichens or mosses and in the spring just before flowering the branches turn red/magenta.

Absolutely stunning Dan.... I love the way the sign aligns with the horizon. Not sure now that any other way would have worked. Do you mind revealing what you used as a viewfinder?

    Re: Technical Camera Images

    Thank you

I actually started with adjusting the sign itself (it was tilting a little), using the Alpa round bubble on top and a Gerber multitool that is always in the bag!

I rarely use any kind of viewfinder, I'm so used to visualize the composition without and/or over/around the camera that it really is second nature by now. In this case, I simply took a measurment from top of sign to floor and put the cam with that height - with the idea of introducing downfall to coincide with horizon. Levelled with the Linhof 3D and exposed.
At review I concluded that I needed a downfall of around 2-3 mm and use one longer shuttertime, but that was it - second exposure was perfect

Ancient stone circle in an isolated area near the Gila River, Arizona, 2015.
Strewn throughout the area are rock alignments, cleared areas, intaglios, petroglyphs, and aboriginal foot trails. The prehistoric cultures which are believed to have utilized this archaeological district between 10,000 BCE and 1450 CE include the Desert Archaic, Patayan, and Hohokam cultures.

I was well out of striking distance so no danger at all. Contrary to what many people believe rattlesnakes are actually quite peaceful as long as you hold your distance. You are not prey so they just want to get away from you and be left alone.
This one was on the outer edge of the rock, I didn't see it and almost stepped on it. It gave me fair warning, hissed and rattled and moved away from me while I jumped in the other direction.

BTW the bottom image is a crop of the other image in case you missed it

GetDPI rule number 1 . Spell check don't freaking work. Rule number 2 if Guy can screw up the English language than its perfectly fine for everyone else. Rule number 3 read accordingly and make adjustments. LOL

Steven is correct in New Jersey English is a second language.

This one with 120ASPH/IQ180. Also tried processing a RAW stitch in LR CC. Pretty cool to even out exposure and white balance across shots, but not viable for lenses that need LCC.

Nice job with the careful framing and separation of the trees against El Capitan!

LR and tech images ... just say no. C1 rules when it comes to LCC correction and the LR equivalent isn't a patch on C1, at least when I tried it last. That said, I haven't tried LR 6 and Eric Chan's new tools though.

Thanks Graham, but you give me too much credit. It was one of the few spots in the water I could lodge the tripod legs into without the heard of people behind me pushing me in

BTW, On LR CC, the ability to stitch RAW files make balancing exposure and color temp a little simpler. I just gave it a shot since it is part of my subscription already, but no intention of moving from C1 anytime.

Hee hee - the realities of life. I know that I would have worked that shot to try and keep all the trees within the frame of El Cap. If you'd just stood in the water a bit further to the right and used an 8ft tripod you could have included that lone straggler on the right inside and had some more room around the tips and top of El Cap ...

yes, yes, I know ... back in the real world we do what we can

(btw I shall shamelessly use that location next time I'm there - nice angle and framing)
