    Dan,

It's always nice to see a landscape with natural not overly saturated colors.

    Re: Technical Camera Images

I completely agree Matt, not my cup of tea with too much saturation. However, I guess it is a personal preference and there tend to be quite a few out there that do like that look!

This scene called for a 3:1 and done by three image nodal stitch. Lowcontrast in overcast light but still the fall colours were screaming and are actually dialed down a tad....

It's a beauty and you've done a great job on it. Unfortunately at its price of CHF202,000 ex tax I won't be getting one soon...more's the pity!

    Dan,

Was this with the Canon mount Schneider PC 90 TS or larger format? Full sensor coverage?

Just lovely. I am curious, why exposure blends; what is different from a single exposure with suitable PP?

    Thanks.
Couldn’t really get the right sky, mountain visibility, and the right water action all in one shot. The weather was pretty rough and there was very little time between the rain stopping and the tide exposing the rocks completely.

Now I understand what you mean (I was thinking different EV). Thanks. You should post this in Behind the Scenes.

    Behind the scenes
Well, they were different EV (fixed f). I did not want to get any movement in the sky, and tried to extract maximum details from the mountain in the BG and rocks in FG (not ideal for long exposure, I used ND for the water shot).

Sorry about the weird jpeg compression. Not sure what's happened there.

    Sorry, missed this one...

I've got the Nikon adaptor for the FPS and I suppose I should have gone the EOS route since the size of the throat is larger with Canon. I get vignetting rather quickly but resolutionwise it is solid up to 8mm shift. I cannot remember when it starts to break with too much shift, I think I have to take a new series of images to confirm how far I can push it. I have a mental note to stop at 8mm

It's nice and quick to combine a small amount of shift and simultanous tilt. The lens is big but weighs less than it looks so it is a good 'hiking' lens.
I don't know if the 28 ever was released or not, but that would be a brilliant combo, 28 & 90 with the FPS and call it a day.

I quite rarely use swing, but it happens from time to time. Here's one:

    Name: fabod.jpg
Views: 2421
Size: 288.1 KB

Linhof Techno, H4D-50, SK 72mm Digitar at f/16, some vertical shift and swing. The right side is a bit closer than the left so swing helped me get better sharpness in the close parts of the wall without really sacrificing anything on the left side.

The subject is like it's often for me "nothing in particular", I just liked the way geometry lined up, how the light falls in, the different colored segments, and the birch bark.

    Richard Mille RM011-FM

    CapCAM, IQ3 80, Schneider 120

    25 image focus stack.

I think this is an interesting demonstration of how the CapCAM can help deliver a shot that would be extremely difficult to do with any other set-up. Because the focal plane is set parallel to the watch face, and then the focus stack runs perpendicular to that, you get a very different outcome compared to how it would look were you to simply focus stack with no tilt/swing applied. I'm not even sure how you could achieve this look with any other camera. That's the full uncropped frame from the IQ3 80.

    Kind regards,

    Gerald.

    Beano,

This is a great perspective in this photograph. May I ask which lens you used, and is it stitched or unstitched?

    Thanks,

    Thanks John.

All images were shot on the P45+, the top and bottom images were made with the Rodenstock 32/4.0, the middle one as the Rodenstock HR-SW 90/5.6, all of the were 3 image stitches, then cropped to 2:1 ratio.

I guess the perspective you're talking about had more to do with the placement of the camera, especially the height of the tripod, obviously, with which you would adjust the foreground / background ratio within the composition. I'm in a phase of trying different things right now in that regard, needless to say, with many failed shots...

    Re: Technical Camera Images

    Beano,

What is your take on using the 32HR lens? Many photographers here on the forum talk about issues with potential distortion, or unevenness when stitching, but then I see these great pristine images, that make me think that the lens really is capable of rendering some great landscapes without too much post-processing. I am intensely debating right now going with either the 32HR versus the 40HR lens.
I am thinking that I am leaning towards the 40HR at this time, so that I can avoid using a center filter, or even a LCC, and still stitch together some fine landscapes relatively seamlessly.

Some background info on Dominguez Pass; In 1776 the Dominguez–Escalante Expedition came to what today is Lee's Ferry trying to cross the Colorado River. Unsuccessful they searched for an alternate route and found their way up the huge sand dune shown in the last image and through a gap in the cliffs now known as Dominguez Pass. Imagine hauling horses and pack mules up that enormous sand dune and along those treacherous ledges...!
From there the expedition continued north and crossed the Colorado at what is known as Crossing of the Fathers now buried deep beneath the waters of Lake Powell.

    Thanks very much Dave.
Yes it's a difficult choice but I take comfort in the fact that the three stitched Dominguez Pass images are well over 100MP and probably wouldn't be possible to make with the IQ3 100 due to shifting limits
