Yep, it was a crappy old day, and cold once it turned southerly - the evidence being in the snow that a lot of the South Island got yesterday. My wife likes the B&W, but I'm with you, the colour one has something. I need to do something about the horizon though - I was using a monopod and battered by the wind (at least that's my excuse).

The camera bag on the beach, Greville Harbour, D'Urville Island, Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand.

The approach was interesting, over a saddle in the ridge at the right rear. Managed it OK as the photo attests!!

    Sorry, missed this one...

Well, I do not focus stack often, but this time it helped because my low camera position. I avoid going past f8,5 with the Rodie, that's the point where it is still stellar but at f11 I can without a doubt see softness creeping in.
It is a typical hyperfocal image but I increased the closer part of the image to be sharper by going backwards, checking the dof scale for each 'stack image'. And staying well inside the dof scale, because PS often mess up the blending, so better to have more images close in focuspoint. If I was to maximize dof I probably would have needed another 10 images, but I thought this was enough with an extra 5 images.

So, I do use this technique sometimes, but quite far inbetween. A couple of degrees forward tilt is often easier and quicker. (however that is scene dependent).

Yesterday I had a workshop with photoenthusiasts. Great people and we had a fun day out! A few stops along the way, but mainly the idea was to shoot the oldest town in Spain - Ronda. A truly spectacular place with loads of image opportunities, both from a far and in the citycentre. Lots of walking steep hills and thousands of stairs, my legs are…..well…aching.

This one was shot with the Alpa FPS, Helvetar 75 and Credo 60. A two image nodal stitch. Iso 50, 1/125, f8,5.

    Re: Technical Camera Images

    Morning!

I returned to the same place I photographed a few posts above yesterday with a friend, I wander about with the dog for miles and often spot little scenes and think they'd be much better with someone in the shot! Anyway, I think this is enhanced with the addition of a figure to give some scale, nice deep shadows and strong sunlight. Just messing around really but I like the contrast to the commercial work I produce on a daily basis which is much more controlled, feels good to just experiment with personal stuff.

    Rick,
Thank you, but if you like the closeness I go for, it might be because I have admired Georgia O'Keeffe's flowers for a very long time. I shoot close with a macro lens, then I usually crop tighter. Looking forward to your work!

    Re: Technical Camera Images

Out training my tolerance of mosquitoes for the summer season. Here's a shot from a local forest after the rain. Wet conditions is one of my favorites as it deepens the colors.

It took quite long time for me to make this image, as it was tough deciding the framing. I don't have any specific rules for framing, I point the camera "until it feels right", but for some subjects like this one where chaos is a pretty strong element it's more difficult and I really need to focus my senses and let my intuition drag me into the composition like a magnet. I also think it's a bit more difficult when the native format (4:3) doesn't feel right for the subject, as I then need to think about format too. This was cropped to 5:4.

Linhof Techno, Schneider-Kreuznach Apo-Digitar 90/4.5 N, f/16 with about 10mm back rise. It may look like I should have used swing, but as the standing tree to the right is a bit close and I didn't want that to be too much out of focus, the best comprise was had with plain focusing.

Processed in RawTherapee using color profile made with DCamProf. Oh, almost forgot, the digital back is a Hasselblad H4D-50.

Due to the immense popularity of my fallen trees, here's another shot

Schneider-Kreuznach Apo-Digitar 72/5.6 L, at f/16 some rise. Linhof Techno, Hasselblad H4D-50 back. Processed in RawTherapee, color profile by DCamProf.

It's shot in Vietas in northern Sweden, a high altitude pine forest. As the forest is not touched by man all dead wood is left, and in the dry conditions it decays very slowly leaving a large amount.

Well, if it was dry perhaps the mosquitos were less of a distraction? And I like the trees; keep them coming!

Yes, actually it was ~0 mosquitos, which is very unusual this time of year, even there. This weekend was midsummer's eve which is a big thing here in Sweden, so I fled to the mountains . I thought it would be packed at the hotel but actually we were the only guests. They had a midsummer's special last year, but then it was snowing so it was a disaster, so they had a bit lower profile this year, and then the weather was fantastic. Well, much too good for photography actually with sunny clear skies.

I had to stay up at night (there's light 24 hours a day this time of year, above the polar circle) to get some shootable light. There was quite some wind too, so anything with leaves on it was difficult to shoot with the multi-second shutter speeds.

Although overcast is my preferred state, I don't always avoid the sun. Below is another one from the same forest. I was mighty surprised to find a football in there. A few kilometers into the forest, no trail nearby. Fortunately this was the only trash I found. Shot with the SK35XL, which is my widest lens.

I find this light very appealing. It makes me want to take a walk there. And the football is an endearing mystery.

I've become a poster boy for Linhof , here's a few images from my "Geometric Chaos" project (a work in progress):

    http://linhof.com/en/portfolio/ander...ometric-chaos/

All shot on the Linhof Techno and Schneider-Kreuznach Apo-Digitar lenses, with the digital backs Leaf Aptus 75 and later/current Hasselblad H4D-50. I've used custom DCamProf color profiles for both backs to equalize the color which makes it easier to maintain a consistent look despite different backs.

APO-DIGITAR 5.6 Schneider 210mm on Arca Swiss Rm3di with H5D50 back. Lens was tilted 5 degrees.
Used B+W variable ND filter which was dialed in at six in the 1-12 scale to insure shutter speed at 1/4 second.

My son is embarking on building custom, titanium bike frames. This is his first frame and he wanted a picture with some mystery to it.
