LOL, no not my thing to show charts or graphs. Once your 'stuff' is calibrated then you should just forget about it and concentrate on the art of imagery.

Yeah, tough to find anything at all with very hard and high light. (Yesterday was also extremely hot with 40 C). Not often I get a keeper in these conditions....

Ha ha, when we were up there, we got cussed at, yelled at, spit at until we presented the man 100 kwai users fee. After that, we even got a parking validation. Happy ending!!!

Summer - something we need to remember in the southern hemisphere right now. Particularly given the polar blast we are experiencing today.

I have given a 10 hour nonstop workshop today. I'm sooooo tired and will fall asleep 7 minutes after I post this

Driving through some very nice landscapes (7 hours on gravel roads high in the Ronda mountains). This scene was about halfway.....

    Goodnight

Clearly there's some interest in the US Presidential election in Melbourne Australia. Spotted on a wall a week or so ago.

    Re: Technical Camera Images

Normally I prefer 2:1 panos, but sometimes even wider is better. This was made with two exposures (and cropped 3:1) and flatstitched from 12mm left/right with the Max.

This is a fantastic photo Graham. I have shared it with some friends and we are all curious how you did the lighting. Could you share some details on that with us?

    Gary,

I'd love to tell you but then I'd have to kill you

    Ok, here goes ...

Basically it it was a 44s exposure and so whilst the shutter was open a broad beam incandescent torch was used from about 6ft to the right to sidelight the rocks. It's important to get away from near the camera to provide that sidelight depth.

I processed the same raw image in C1 Pro using two different white balances. A Blue rendering at 5300K for the sky which rendered a cool washed out rock, and then a warmer 7400K which renders a richer more yellow rock but very magenta sky/foreground. I brought both into PS and then created a luminosity mask to render through the bluer layer as the background / sky and retain most of the warmer rendering on the rocks / horizon glow. No other magic potions ... Well, other than removing the pollution of my red headlight.

There is indeed a lot of magic in this image Graham and it is really interesting to learn the basics of how you lit and processed it. Creating an image like yours is certainly way beyond my ability to visualize and then actually create it. I'll send an email to my friends with a link to your post.

    Thanks!

I knew that this would happen when i posted the pair The magenta sky works better for cityscapes but I like a bluer landscape shot and so that was behind my blending choice too.

Hi Graham. One of my friends mentioned that the color temps you mentioned above seemed the opposite of what he expected....5300K for a blue, cooler rendering and 7400K for a warmer (yellow) rendering. He thought it would be the opposite. What are we missing?

You're not missing anything. It's just the order of the attachments ... The cooler one is blue, the warmer one is yellow/magenta.

Btw, yes that valve exit really is that shape. It's not a weird distortion.

The cleanest air I have seen in my 10 years in Shanghai.
    Thank you G20.

They obviously know what is causing all those damn smog in the city, they just choose not to deal with it...

    Nice shot!

Looks like your sensor is in need of a recalibration btw. There's a definite sensor fold above that first large building about a third in on the right. You'll see it in the clouds, especially if you convert to B&W. Phase One should be able to take an image file and send you back a recalibration.

Easy to miss. My IQ260 was notorious for it at times.

    Alpa 12 STC
    Phase one P45
    Schneider 50/2.8 (composite - foreground f/11, sky f/2.8)
    Toast TP-2 Equatorial tracker
Sky is just 2x 4min subs stacked at ISO200. Unfortunately a bit of coma at f/2.8 but my P45 was crashing at 5mins+ for some reason (cold?)
