    Haven't posted here for quite a while。

This is supposed to be the busiest intersection in Shanghai, but with the new laws limiting vehicles from out of the city to go on these elevated roads during rush hour, the main roads in certain directions have become relatively emptied of late.

And yes, with the upcoming G20 to be hosted in the nearby city of Hangzhou, the commies have successfully reduced pollution by 90% almost overnight, which just proves that they can do it, but they just don't want to

    offtopic:
of course they can, they simply shut down all the polluting factories, they do the same thing with every major event in china, olympics, apec...etc.
thats where the famous term "apec blue" comes from.
for the olympics the shut down EVERYTHING one month in advance, while, and one month after the olympics, i did suffer the worst pollution before the olympics time though for half a year
Because the companies knew what was coming, they were producing 24/7 to make it up for the downtime.

Another cityscape shoot from Shanghai, this time it is the Nanpu Bridge crossing over the Huangpu river. To elevate it to the required height using limited space, they ended up creating this spiral ramp (not unlike the Rainbow bridge in Tokyo) which makes for some nice light trail effects, too bad about the raindrops on my lens, which I didn't notice during the shoot :banged:

I continue to try imaging pretty mundane subjects - a pen in this case. The instrument in back is an attitude gyro from an old aircraft panel, and this pen has an aviation tech feature.

    Re: Technical Camera Images

interior view of the Touro Synagogue
Touro Synagogue, dedicated in 1763, is the oldest synagogue building in the United States. A structure of exquisite beauty and design, steeped in history and ideals, the synagogue is considered one of the ten most architecturally distinguished buildings of 18th century America and the most historically significant Jewish building in the United States. The congregation was founded in 1658 by the descendants of Jewish families who fled the Inquisitions in Spain and Portugal and who themselves left the Caribbean seeking the greater religious tolerance that Rhode Island offered. In his famous letter to the "Hebrew congregation at Newport," written in 1790, President George Washington pledged that our new nation would give "to bigotry no sanction and to persecution no assistance." Touro Synagogue stands as a symbol of religious freedom for all Americans. It was designated a National Historic Site in 1946. The Ambassador John L. Loeb Jr. Visitors Center opened in 2009 with exhibits to further explore the history of Newport's early Jewish community and the origins of First Amendment rights. Each year, over 30,000 visitors cross the synagogue threshold to pray, to see its magnificent interior and to hear its remarkable story.

We've had a very dry summer this year. the reservoir behind my house, which has been a frequent, patient subject of mine is almost completely drained. This year some kind of daisy has bloomed on a wide area that is normally under water.

Same equipment, 2-image stitch 18mm each way. Gotta still work on this; looks a bit too HDR-ish...

    Re: Technical Camera Images

Finally an edit of this image I am happy with. I took 5 frames to stitch for this pano (of increasing exposure due to failing light). The last one was 20 minutes! As a result there were quite a few hot pixels to edit out even after the dark frame and NR in post were applied.
Hard to believe these falls are 12 metres in height, they look so serene and small in a long exposure.

Couldn't let the thread fall off the first page!

Practicing tilt today with the sk150. Somewhere around 4 degrees. I still don't understand how the forum images display. On my MBP the full image looks fine but the two crops are softer than they really are. On my NEC display the crops look a bit better but the full image looks over sharpened.

This barn/garage was originally part of a Newport Estate by the name of Chateau-Sur-Mer which was constructed in 1852.
I'm not sure how many times this structure has been updated since the original construction, but it now serves as a classroom building for Salve Regina University
BTW, I used one degree of tilt on my 32mm Rodi lens for additional depth of field

    Re: Technical Camera Images

Been a while since I've posted anything here. Recently I finally accepted the fact that if I wanted to move forward with my photography, I had to invest in some "proper" lights. Been putting it off for years for some reason. Last week took delivery of some Profoto gear, and here's the third photo shot with it.

    Capcam, IQ250, Schneider 120mm

Full frame, single shot with tilt and swing.

Lots to learn, but am quite happy with how things have started out (ignoring the fact I didn't quite hit the crown right!)

Why oh why did I wait so long?

    Kind regards,

    Gerald.

and the trouble with hi-res watch photography is the dirt and fingerprints, even straight from the manufacture they are covered in it.
not really visible with the naked eye but the camera never lies.
always a couple of hours retouch to clean up a watch
never trust the opinion of anyone who lists a load of gear in their forum signature. Dealers do not email me asking to buy your products.

Labour of love for me. I consider myself very fortunate that I do this for the fun of it!

    Kind regards,

    Lovely image,

But are you not a bit to much focused on gear? Profoto has great gear, which offers great convenience. But, do you really think that the photons coming from Profoto are any better than the photons of my Elinchrome DLite 400 made in India?

Great images, like the one you posted, may depend far more on knowledge, experience and hard work than making use of the most expensive and professional gear.

    Best regards
    Erik

Last time I checked, Profoto was nowhere near the most expensive gear. And of the range they sell, the D1's that I have are amongst the cheapest lights that they do.

Frankly, I have zero interest whatsoever in comparing my choice to your Elinchromes.

This thread is - or was - about images.

Seriously. Step away from the keyboard and recognize that you're confusing me with someone who values your opinion.

    Re: Technical Camera Images

Just back from Italy giving my Actus and 3100 a first real workout. Everything worked wonderfully and the system is fairly light. This image was shot with the Schneider 180mm shifted 10mm left and right and cropped slightly to 16X9. The lens itself is tack sharp left to right and edge to edge but focusing is VERY critical. I used ES for every shot I took while in Italy and would not live without it. I never tire of this view and thought it looked well in BW. I used one of the presets in C1 for BW and just a little PS after that.

    Re: Technical Camera Images

An iconic image from Tuscany. I have shot this every time I have been there with mixed results. The sun was over my left shoulder as can be seen from the shadows but overall it would have been better if it had been taken in spring. But.... I was here in fall so this is what I got. Actus, 120mm Digitar, 3100. Slight rise.... Montalcino in the background. BW was the best option for me but in spring this would have been best in color.

Cambo Ultima, Rodenstock Apo-Macro Sironar digital 120mm, P40+,
Broncolor Fibrolite and Pulsospot 4 with snoot and gobo.

From a recent series of a buffalo cheese dairy.
I was very happy to use my "magic chemical box" for the smoke on the barbecue cheese once again.
