Rolling bag w/large wheels

fotoflood

New member
Carrying a Hassy or Arca Rm with tripod and assorted lenses and paraphernalia etc. I'm looking for a rolling bag with large wheels - wheels that could easily be pulled over gravel and such. Sometimes I don't want to carry a heavy backpack. Any suggestions?

Hire an assistant or sherpa maybe!

Sorry, couldn't resist. Seriously, I tried using a canoe dolly when I was gimped up after I fell off the cliff and it worked pretty good on well maintained trails.

I would use a hand truck and put your existing bags on it. There are foldable hand trucks.

@ed
Yup - I'm gimped at the moment.

@shashin
That's what I thought I'd do if there are no other alternatives.

I kinda remember someone custom making bags with large wheels but I can't seem to find the link.

Perhaps this company. I have no experience with them. Great website btw:poke:

I have used kart-a-bag and wesco and both companies do a great job.
Have fun.

Thanks a bunch!! It was the versa-flex bag that I couldn't recall/find. But I think I will go with a small Wesco trolly. I have a couple of (indispensable) larger ones at work but for my purposes - for weekend pleasure shooting - I think one of the small ones will do.

I purchased a GOLF "cart" with 10inch wheels and modified it to fasten the bag.
It is very light and fold able making it very compact. It moves well on paved and trails.

Have a look here

Klick on english language . I have a "ROYAL" model with big wheels and did slight modifications to meet my needs .
It can carry 50kg and is very light and goes very well in uneven terrain.

I like the fact that the double wheels are extended for stability. However, the wheels are made of plastic and they're small. I don't think they'll be good over gravel/grass/etc.

@Jürgen
They make some nice stuff. The Royal model is very much like the Wesco trollies.

@Bob & @Rollei
I would have never thought of using a modified golf cart or a buggy, though both are creative solutions.

So far, I think it'll be a Wesco. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

Well, that was a fun tour of all the possibilities. The wheel deal is what makes it hard to find just the right thing. I'm surprised that someone like Think Tank doesn't make a "field roller" set of wheels to add to existing bags that already have telescoping handles built-in.

I agree as a huge fan of TT stuff I am surprised as well. I currently embarassingly have 6 of there bags. My wife's bag fetch has rubbed off on me. Just bought the Glass Taxi last week for my Tech Cam. I'm seriously going to get 4 shrinks for this forum that specialize in GAS syndrome. I'm number 1 patient. :ROTFL::ROTFL::ROTFL:

Marc I already signed you up bud. LOL

Exactly! I often wondered why TT don't make bags with larger wheels! I have a TT rolling bag which I bought a couple of years ago. It's a well-made bag. It's great rolling on smooth surfaces but miserable on anything that's not smooth. I once had to go over cobblestones, and even that was impossible, so I had to carry it. Maybe they could have some sort of large-wheel-attachment-accessory which clamps on to their bags.
