My Macbook pro being out of order, i need to buy a new laptop !
Apple stopped the Macbook pro 15" 2,6 with 1 Go RAM...
So, i'm considering buying a retina... but before, i have to make shure that i will be able to shoot with my Leaf Aptus II7 with it...

The firewire/thunderbolt adapter can't provide enought power... so you need to use a powered repeater...

i've bought a really good quality one... Unibrain

No, i need a good battery pack for it... price are from 10 euros to 800 !

Any suggestion for the good value for money battery pack ?
i'm in france, so 220V !

Thanks

DC Power connector: Walkman-type 2.0 mm DC
Power Input Range: DC 8V~30V, max. 1.35A.
Power Consumption (at 12V DC): 1.5W max.

FireRepeater-800 Pro: Four and Five ports industrial 1394b (Firewire-800) Repeaters

I use this one: Energizer® XP18000 Portable Charger for Laptops | External Battery | Portable Charger and it works fine. There's a 19v output (for laptops) that would be required for the firewire (which is 16 to 30v IIRC). Mine is 220/240v
so that's one is easily available in france... is it ok for my Repeater ?

by the way, in the package content pdf, i can't see any adaptor for macbook...

it looks like, they are working on it... but apple...

i'm an apple user till 1996, it was a good ideology at the start...
the computer needs to adapt itself to the user...
now, the only ideology seems to be... the user is a consumer, how can we force him to buy only apple product$...
grgrgrggrgrrr !

Yes it will work in that range.

Regarding the macbook connector, the shop in HK had them here quite cheap, but since I upgraded to an air the adapter changed and now I haven't been able to get one again!!

If I find them I can let you know.

a forum member, inform me that the energizer solution isn't enought to keep the mfdb working...
Maybe we should use a quantum... ?

?

with aptus and aptus II you CAN'T use a battery in the back while a firewire cable is connected !
Oh yes, it's been a while since I switched from the leaf, it has that plastic plate you put in place of the battery.

So I'm powering an IQ back but also using a powered cable not a firewire hub. Basically what I have is a small circuit board that is permanently attached to the end of the cable, there are two are firewire IO ports the other is DC power.

If your hub can already power the back (using the DC output) all you need is a battery that can match that output. You could go to a specialist RC shop and get a lithium battery, these guys push the boundaries of their batteries and should be able to offer advice. You could also check a resource like this. They should also be able to advise on getting the certificate for aeroplane travel.

this isn't an option over here !
i've tried many times... without success ;-(
i think i will try the energizer first, if it doesn't work, i will keep it for iphones...
The safe way, seems to be a quantum Turbo 3... but really expensive over here... 700€ !
