MFD-Sand-Death Valley-Camera Safety?

I have yet to shoot MDF in Harsh conditions, but I will be soon enough. I am heading to Death Valley and I know a lot of you with MFD have been there and done that. I am a little concerned about my H4D-40 out there especially in the sand. I was thinking of using Gaffer's tape around the back? Not sure really.
I have used my Canon gear in harsh conditions with great results. So any help would be extremely helpful. (I know I'll be tempted to change lenses too:shocked:)

No different using a MFDB and any other camera really.

Basically, same rules apply----same common sense. If it's super windy and rain or sand is blowing all over the place, it's probably not an ideal time to change a lens. And probably not a fun time to be out in the elements anyway.

I never considered Death Valley to pose any real harsh conditions....

Agree! I also pack a couple of 2mil large rubbish (gardening trash) bags in a pocket of my camera pack. No weight and great to put your pack down on (wet, sand, etc.) and easy to throw over your camera if something blows your way (sea spray, sand, rain squall...).

Have a great time!

Nothing to worry about unless you drop the camera in the sand dunes. Just use some common sense. Shooting with a MFD in a dust storm on sand dunes may be unadvisable :p
