    Re: Fun with MF images

Laphroaig is incredibly intense, love it, but I cannot have more than one glas. Which ofcourse could be a very good thing...
Scapa I have a bottle at home and enjoy it a lot.
In fact, I have tried plenty and have many 'favorites' - but somehow the Talisker 10 always is the one I return to. It is the perfect mix of flavours, smooth and I do not grow tired of it.
I know it isn't the most expensive, not the rarest and there are quite a few others that have more prestige, but still....for me, Talisker 10 is the one.

End of off topic from me. Sorry if anybody got offended!

That had to be one hell of a night. Surprised Woody could level the camera the next morning. I am also a huge Laphroaig fan. Unfortunately I can have two

    Woody,

I married in 1978 ... had a 72 Cheval Blanc in the honeymoon suite - gift from a friend.

I do have to ask...three for a Talisker Oban and Scapa?

Surprised you could focus the day after......

Of the three Oban is the one with which I am most familiar, I will try Scapa...
have been spending most of my time recently with the Balvenie....

Chambers was wrong. The S2 auto focus is quite good. Probably better than the human eye in this case.

Oh my Woody, I would have brought my 1982 Chateau Gran Larose and we would have had a great Bordueux affair.

    Bill,
Great shot. These guys follow me around whenever I go out on my bicycle...sometimes I think there must be a message that I am missing.

Great shot Bill and a certain irony that he appeared right after three empty scotch bottles!
BTW, you do know that MF can't be used for wildlife shots?

Yeah, of course you can't use MF for wildlife. The middle quarter of an IQ180 frame with the LS 240 is the equivalent of only 960 mms at 20 megapixels. Who could get by with that?

But kidding apart, the real problem for me is that the Cube is NOT good for wildlife! Just too slow to adjust. I used it for the vulture because he was quite settled and I had time. The RS Hawk shot was hand held.

    Thanks for your comment,
    Bill

    Mal,

    thank you so much.

Actually, I never thought I would do something like "tasteful photography". Having said that, be sure I'm the one most surprised from what happens from time to time

    Mea culpe!

This kind of pic needs to be big... all that detail and subtle tonal gradation would be lost on a smaller file..

    Betthis would look good HUGE!

Hey all. First post(second post, apparently my first got munched). Been lurking here for a few weeks, in that time I have read all of this thread and the technical camera image thread from start to finish. There are a ton of fantastic artists here. And the community seems pretty great.

"abandon all hope who enter here" thanks dante, too late. A few years ago i went from a Oly E5 to a Fuji 617 and went further down the rabbit hole with an imacon 343. Having never shot anything this large before, I was blown away at the tonal qualities and resolution and how easily my 3200ppi scans can be printed huge.

But now i'm here. I found this place looking for info on phase one backs Technical Cameras and more, and boy does this place have a lot of info and certainly some excellent examples of what these backs are capable in the hands of some fantastic photographers.

Here's some what I shoot. Please excuse the change in presentation style. All Fuji GX 617 RVP50

Another shot of the Lake Erie shore. Taken with a 645D and 200mm with heavy crop. I tried a longer lens, but the 30 mph winds made it impossible to stabilize the camera. I was thinking a Mark Rothko image, not quite, but this is interesting.

NB: the dark ice results from melting and the trapped debris accumulates on the surface.

I am with you Bill - It always has been about the print. that's the art!! It is funny in a way how things change yet remain the same, Before when when we came out of the darkroom after hours of concentration (where we lost all sense of time), we had to squint - now when we get up from sitting in front of the computer (where we lost all sense of time) we still squint.
This is what separates photos from images.

Yeah baby! (spoken in my best Austin Powers voice)

I like this a lot, with just enough fine detail to draw the eye. Well done.

Very nice Pramote. I hope you were camping there; it's magical at night.

    Re: Fun with MF images

    Joe & Tom,

    Thanks very much!
I was in the conference presenting my work in San Diego. I rented a car, drove to the park, had ~ 4 hrs there and had to drive back to San Diego for the work.
I could certainly spend days camping there. Countless opportunities!
Tom, I agree, photographing the stars/star trails would be fantastic there. The sky was very clear.
I am looking forward to my next trip to CA to revisit the park again. Next times, I will absolutely spend more time.

    Best,
    Pramote
