Took another look. That is the Point Sur Lightstation. It was a radar station at one time, and is a California state landmark. Home Two

But Nathan, I have been to Norway and it rolls a LOT - though alcohol can be problematic to track down

Tom, an observation. Have you experimented with a bit of fill light (ie: from a Pentax flash for example) for outdoor shots like this? I sometimes do when using the 600mm f5.6, with an without a fresnel lens on the flash head. I think a touch of fill would have been quite effective and in this case better than just raising the level of exposure, for obvious reasons. Just a thought.

Pramote, absolutely lovely macro shots...espcailly the last two. They have a great balance of detail while retaining the softness and delicate nature of the subject.

From Visby, Gotland, Sweden largest island.
A part of the bailey. They started to build it in the 12 century and much of it was finished at the end of the 13 century.

Makes me feel quite young actually..

Pramote - totally agree that these shots are lovely. They have a soft crispness about them (yes, I know that is a paradox!) that makes them feel fresh, close, beautiful real-yet-dreamlike.

Thanks very much Ed for your kind words!
My style of flower photography is by choice as I've always take it during lower light, large aperture, multiple shots with different focuses and subsequent manual stacking in PS (1+ hour around before sunset; can't do it 1 hr after sunrise as the Botanic Gardens always open at 09:00am except taking wild flower).
I've never used flash for flower photography and always used available sunlight even when the light level is low. Certainly, I have to deal with movement by the wind. That's why they are barely crispy clear. I just like it this way.

It certainly is. It's also home to one of the very few camera stores that only sells film gear - Blue Moon Camera.

Is it called Blue Moon because that's how often the customers come in? I am a great fan of the oddball comedy TV show Portlandia and I would love to see the writing team do a sketch set in such a shop!

Finally rented a studio and got some time there with my camera. Only to find out it was only 600ws flashes there.

Iso50 and penn-wall was not possible. Got F5.6 when using one of the flash on full power. So only got closeups instead. Next time I`ll take with me my 1000ws Interfit instead.

This has everything going for it--high-contrast specular highlights, low-contrast colorless backlight with haze (it is a color photograph) One plus, it was easy to color balance. I am hoping Ray (Grayhand) will look at it for a week and tell me he likes it. Somehow, I like it too. A pity it has to be so small here as there is a lighthouse on the center island.

From a trip yesterday to Acadia National Park. From Schoodic Peninsular looking toward Mt. Desert Island--Mt. Cadillac is the big bump at the left. Pentax 645D, 300mm f/5.6 lens, stitched pano, but breaking from tradition, on a tripod.

    Pramote,

I have to commend you on your excellent choice of vantage point & shooting location. I think that our tripods passed though each other in the time dimension. I like your framing that includes more of the lighthouse and buildings and I wish I could have done so myself when I was trying to find an angle with the reflection

It's an interesting location and pretty slick at times, seemingly more precarious depending upon the value of the camera on your tripod at the time.

I shot this one last year. Alas no Shashin meet up when I was there in March I think it was.

    Newport RI
This is an image of the Cogshell house which was built in 1712. This house and dozens more were restored in 1968 by the Doris Duke Foundation. Ms Duke summered in Newport and was a very colorful part of society here for many years. Newport was the base for the Vanderbilts, the Carnegies the Firestones, the Astors-you get the point--http://newyorksocialdiary.com/node/32945

Parish house of St Mary Church
The parish congregation was founded in 1828. The current church building was constructed in 1848 by Patrick C. Keely. In 1953 Senator John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier were married at St. Mary's. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

Well, it did actually not take a week this time
This was simple, compared with the previous picture.
This photo press many of my photographic buttons, satisfies many of my various photo fetishes. So this photo, I like!

But the previous photo, Ahh there I learned what true love is!

That last one of the Opera House is stunning. Great shot mate.
Stop chasing gear, start chasing photos instead.
