    Re: Fun with MF images

This wasn't shot with a MF camera (obviously..) but since it's MF related I thought I'd post it here. Note the obligatory wire strap around the eyepiece...

    Re: Fun with MF images

I'm not an architectural photographer and I don't like most of the HDR I've seen. So with that disclaimer: I recently moved to a new building for my day job. I really like it, but Its exterior looks best to me at night. So I tried HDR and I like the results. Any comments to slap me back to my senses or suggestions appreciated . The second image is the first time I've seen moiré issues with the 645D and I did not straighten the verticals.

    Re: Fun with MF images

Tom, I think you did a fine job. They appear quite natural. The sky and motion make the first very dynamic. The color contrast between the yellows and blues are great. You did are really nice job of dealing with the mixed lighting. I think a little closer and a little bolder would have been a bit better, you seem to be standing back rather than engaging. But they are both very nice. Good start to your new photography career.

Thanks Will. I worry about my judgment with things like HDR, vibrance, saturation, etc.
For me it's like adding sugar or salt to a dish. A little bit helps, but before you know it it's way too much.

Playing around with Capture One Pro 8's Film Grain Adjustment Tool. With a bit of practice and Photoshop enhancements, you can really create film-like images.

A lot of prior film photography shooting experience helps too.

From a recent trip to Isle of Skye. Hurricane winds and constant rain kept me away from many places..... gotta get what you can. I took 10 images of this while sustaining 50MPH gusts..... two turned out vibration free. Always pays to take a couple extra! Larger version can be seen at Isle of Skye photo - Victor Bellehumeur photos at pbase.com. Taken with Alpa STC 150mm Schneider Digitar Leaf Credo 50. Hope someone enjoys.

    My garden last Friday:

It is snowing today and we had a blizzard on Nov. 2. This is depressing. Not that I don't like the snow, but because I prefer to have less than six months of winter.

Hassleblad 80mm exported as greyscale. Also shot with Monochrom to see the difference. I'll post on the Leica thread.

    Bill:

That's a very effective treatment that really suits that image. How did you achieve the grainy, faded look?

Given the sharp slop of the dormer on the roof, I would think the house is in maritime Canada, or maybe built by someone from the east who moved west.

I processed this in Silver Efex Pro, using one of the antique formulas. The house is actually fairly typical of rural Ontario in Victorian times. It's near Lion's Head, ON.

It's now in better condition, despite my photo treatment.
