    Will,

Thanks for the link. Since you said this was film, and moire is digital issue, this was my feeble attempt at humor, that I think you realized.

    Afternoon

Something a little different today, heavy winds have blown snow from the lake surface and left beautiful dark ice visible. Time for some abstract shots.

    Afternoon.

Went back for more abstract ice shots today, freezing cold on the lake but amazed at the shapes and lines produced by the moving ice. Experimented with sliding tripod across the ice and stitching the results, some very nice large files that will print really beautifully. At 100% these look great, millions of air bubbles.

Love these Mat. Interestingly they remind me of a series I did of morning-frost-covered shale. An example is below. I have some even more similar to your ice images, but can't locate them (my filing systems needs work)

    Thanks Tom!

Indeed, they have a similar theme, I am really drawn to strong shapes like these, the abstract nature really helps. I think what they really need is to be printed very large and laminated behind perspex or something so there's depth to them, the tiny bubbles when you look close up are amazing.

    Here's another I like.

    Afternoon!

Vicious day here today, very strong wind blowing across the lake but took a snowmobile out to the centre and found some incredible clear ice, could see the bottom many meters below. Got some nice shots with snow blowing through, really difficult to stand up and stay with the camera as just being blown across the ice.

I would like to see this image as a double exposure with the natural horizon line in your image overlapping a landscape of the frozen lake with the clouds scudding across a frozen sky.

Do really like your frozen abstractions.

Whilst the Leica is not the ideal camera for aurora photography, it doesn't do too bad a job on occasion. This from last night.

Matt - you live in my world ...

I'll set up the tech for the sunset or sunrise color and it'll happen at the last place I considered and too quickly to set up again and do anything about it. In the meantime the Sony/Nikon/Canon guys have all run over and fired off ten different images.

Apparently, you don't have enough cameras to cover all your bases (I know you have enough tripods). There is no problem a little money can't solve. And we are here to help!

    Howdy Tom,

The image was tweaked in LR, then over to PS for a few textured backgrounds added and blended, plus a few brush strokes to take some of the texture out where the petals are in focus, then back into LR for an exposure tweak. I am currently going through my library files and into image folders I had abandon for some reason; this was a resurrection from 2010.

    Kind regards,

    Afternoon!

The sun returned here a couple of days ago, first direct sunlight we've seen for a couple of months. Went back to the lake to see how the light would work with the cracks in the ice, I really like the way that the cracks deep down are now illuminated, it adds a really nice element to the abstract.
