That sounds pretty interesting I am not using flash much for my work, I have a couple of Elinchrom Quadra in the Hybrid flavour that do the trick for me. I used to use Profoto in my studio days, they are wonderful flashes and built like a tank - they became overkill for me when I specialised on Landscape, but GAS is always there - I better keep far from the announcements!

    Re: Fun with MF images

Nothing fancy and in the spirit of "fun" with MF, I tried out some older Hasselblad lenses on the XF yesterday. I never was really into portraits using digital MF but the XF seems to be quite capable to act as a point and shoot if needed

    :buggies:

That is interesting. Any of these rumours made it to a blog somewhere for more details or is it something a little bird whispered in your ear?

    Re: Fun with MF images

    No blog.

My dealer who had a NDA returned from a meeting where the new stuff was demo'ed

He immediately sold off two Acute B II 600s in preparation for acquiring the new.

Disclosed nothing other than he loved what he saw ... and he has passed on the
new B1 and B2s prior to this.

I have not sold my Acute B 600s yet as I have found a source for the lead acid batteries at
$35 per battery and I have four cassettes. I do not do that much strobe work but if the new
units are very compelling I will trade out of these.

I believe the announcement is soon enough that waiting might be in order.

    Bill,
I considered sending you a pm suggesting we meet for coffee, but our hosts left no time unassigned. Maybe next time, after my wife and I get our camper.

    Afternoon

No glorious sunsets here like Ed has, so went out early this morning to see if sunrise would be any better, nope! Took a couple of shots anyway as the light was quite nice at this little pool.

    Morning!

Not a very exciting photograph but worthy for the fact that it shows blue aurora that is pretty rare to see up here. Now the skies are dark again there are some great northern lights visible.

Dogwood (Red Osier). XF/100/SK120. I used f18 which, for this lens, shows virtually no softening from diffraction.

I have friends who have a beach house there. They drove down this morning from Pinehurst...

Meanwhile, we have 50 mph winds here with 60 mph gusts. I'm on the coast, outside of Charleston which only has 35 mph winds!
We have had a total of 1.2 inches. I was hoping for much more as we have been very dry. I hope to have some images tomorrow but the surf cam shows very choppy seas at the moment so I think I'll just hunker down until this thing blows itself out.
My brother is in Tallahassee - texted me that he will not have power for another two days.

We are fortunate that it missed us here in south Florida but the season still has two months yet to go. I will be in the UK for part of September and will be keeping my fingers crossed, we certainly are due for one.

Storm is diminshing here at 10 pm. 9 in rain; winds about 50 mph at peak. Not too bad and I haven't spent time playing hearts for years.

"I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky;"

Before you jump in and correct me, I refer not to John Masefield "Sea Fever" where indeed the first line uses the plural - seas, but to the poem by Spike Milligan which is less well known but equally memorable:

I must go down to the sea again,
    to the lonely sea and the sky;
I left my vest and socks there -
    I wonder if they're dry?

Shoes and socks in some versions but vest appears in: "The Little Pot Boiler" 1963 by Spike Milligan
His title is: Return to Sorrento (3rd class)

    Afternoon!

Running workshops in Iceland for the next 2 weeks, did a recce today to Aldeyjarfoss, been trying to get there for a couple of years but always in the winter and the road is often closed. Anyway, just went for a look, harsh sun but still a great spot.

Some pretty serious water flowing here.

This lens is a loaner, and its list price is staggering . I may not be able to live without it, though.

    Re: Fun with MF images

    Evening!

One of the most fantastic days at Dettifoss I have seen, thick fog on the drive in, so bad I wasn't sure we'd see the falls but just enough visible by the time we got there. Felt like a black and white day.

One more, very early this morning at Godafoss, nobody there at 6am so got the place to ourselves! Trying to avoid the traditional composition and isolate a little of the falls just as the sun was starting to hit them.

    Mat,

That's a tough act to follow. Wonderful! What was the exposure time? The clouds above the falls look pretty sharp, but the water looks like a long exposure.

Here's another abstract from last weekend. Leica S(006), 120/2.5 APO-Macro.

This lens is a loaner, and its list price is staggering . I may not be able to live without it, though.

Nice! Any more images with this lens you can share?

Thanks Matt! It was 1/3rd of a second, there is such a large volume of water that it didn't need longer than that to blur it out completely, just got lucky that the cloud wasn't moving that much either.

    Cheers

I've posted the better ones earlier in this thread. Here are all the pictures I've put on Flickr using the S-24.

Thank you! I use Flickr just to hold the photos so I can link to them from getDPI. I must be up to 20 Instagram followers by now, though .

Seriously, though, I'm working on launching a real website. Yikes!

Here's another with the 24 from this morning. I'm shooting a lot of standpipes around NYC. This one is actually in front of my building and is quite unimpressive.

Nice conversion Matt, I think standpipes are pretty cool, we don't have them here in the North.

I shot this nice old church today, not as dramatic as the mean streets of NYC!...

Just got my XF a few days ago. I'm very much enjoying the Phase One color!
