This is Sara, a new model I've been working with. Hope to get her twin to shoot with her next time.

One from a few evenings ago. The rock in the foreground is water-worn blue-green serpentine.

Here's another one from Oregon I missed the first time through the browser. Little bit of post in CS4 to help create the final:

Dale what really strikes me about this image is how all the horizontal curved lines work together, complimenting each other and making this a unique composition. very nice...lovely colors too! eleanor

Re: Fun with MF images - Part 3

Eleanor, I'm glad you like it. Thank you for your kind words.

The rocks along the American River in that area are very photogenic. There are lots of graceful curves thanks to eons of water shaping the serpentine. The bridge is kind of interesting because it was once the longest concrete bridge of its kind in the U.S. It was once a railway bridge providing access to the nearby limestone quarry, but the steel tracks were pulled-up to support the war effort during WWII. Now it's a footpath, and horsemans' path.

I'm happy with the print, but see room for improvement in the web version. After working the print version I was less careful (lazy) with the sRGB version (typical).

A horizontal version from the same outing.

Edit: The bridge was the longest concrete arch bridge in the world (not the U.S. as I stated above) at the time it was built. It was the first concrete bridge of its type in North America. Completed in 1912.

Thanks, Guy. The first suffers from a bit of diffraction that the second seems to escape. The vertical shot was f/18 (ouch), while the horizontal was f/16 and the file is better for it. Though I prefer the vertical I think. Both are the full-frame with the Mamiya 35mm.

Thank you Tom! I printed it up with just a tad more saturation and it looks pretty darn good -- good enough to get a mat and a frame and hung in the gallery

Thank you. The second one loses out in the conversion to a jpg. The energy in the waves can only be seen as a large image. The great thing is that there is very little post work here. The sky was amazing that morning.

Gary - Very nice, lots of drama and energy in the sky and in the waves in the first one but also some peacefulness and soft tones at the water's edge and in the sand - it really gives the image some breadth and range. Nicely done!

A bend in the river near Wawa, Ontario. 75-150 at 75 mm, P45+. The web image doesn't do justice to the extraordinary detail this back picks up.

Now that you've had it for a while, how do you like the 110/2, especially compared to other lenses you used before?

It's a bit lower in contrast, but that's not really an issue with digital because it's so easy to correct. Overall I'm very pleased with it. I could live with just the 110 and the 40.
