d3x vs ZD ....

Dear all;

I had the occasion to shoot a friends D3X vs my ZD, same model, same lights, different lenses and cameras. I shot the Nikon with the new 85 1.4, and the ZD with the old 150mm, this makes them both portrait lenses. I shot both a F9, this gave a ever so slightly dof difference, but no much. These are the resolution tests .....

Nikon ( LR3)

ZD (C1 6)

Pretty unscientific, but as near as I can tell, the old ZD is doing a pretty darn good job. I only have the DB-Back license to C1, so the post processing is not equal, but from other tests, in LR, the Nikon conversions are pretty good relative to C1. The other way around does not work at all, the ZD demands C1.

I would also comment, the the jpeg engine on C1 seems to do a bit worse job than LR, but the color differences are pretty close to what I'm seeing on screen. The Nikon seems to get the colors a bit better, but with a bit of careful post, can just about make the match.

I'll get some up showing the B&W conversions and the ability to recover shadows as I can get around to it.

nudes from a D3X and a ZD ....

Dear all;

This is what I typically shoot in the studio.

If you could not tell from the title, if you follow the links, you will see pictures of a nude model. To me, they are tasteful, but your boss may not agree.

That is why they are links. If this kind of image bothers you, don't follow the link! :deadhorse:

These are the jpegs to keep things reasonable. If any one would like to look at a raw image file, drop me a note @ djonesii at yahoo dot com

Try to cut and paste. ( not the quotes!) If this does not work, drop a note, and I'll upload to my server rather than drop box.

Working on some seascapes from last January. All p65+ on PhaseOne DF.

Wayne,

I love all of the seascape images. Each is unique and very serene. Was hyperfocal focusing sufficient to achieve the sharpness in the last image? Or did you have to use focus stacking? The sharpness of the rocks coupled with the softness of the sea make for an interesting contrast in textures.

EXIF says f/32 1.6" so I'd very much doubt it. This would a very tricky focus stack blend too with the random nature of the water flow.

Very nice images Wayne!

Wayne,

Great series -- all are superb and I know they look even better printed!
