There's so many new features, and the ramifications from these features are endless.

One of my favorites that has been overlooked so far:

*You can shoot straight out of Live View*

camera looks great.

I agree - I had no idea what it would look like - but when the iXA and iXR came out, I had the feeling that form factor might move forward.

With the look of the IQ Series, it totally makes sense.

Steve, I caught that! This means (I hope) that you can now shoot directly when using the WS50 much like a "regular" converted IR camera.

Dual triggering!! Built-in Profoto Air Sync and Pocket Wizard triggering! :)

And did you catch the all new blue band on the new lenses? Very stylish. :p Ok, seriously, fingers-crossed on a substantively kick-*** good 35mm LS....

I'm not so sure I'm as excited as Don Libby about the waist-level finder. When you're short like me, using the prism finder I'm already at waist level.... :ROTFL:

Just finished watching the video and reading about the hands on from Anthony. This is by new must have for the year.

Kens right, my waist level is his head level. All kidding aside, this is huge for landscape/nature shooters who in the past had to belly crawl to get ground level images. The addition of the WL viewer makes it easier and will keep me much cleaner (still remember laying on the ground at the racetrack in DV shooting the rocks).

All great news and yes I've got my order in with Dave.

Only problem Don is that looks like a redo is not supported

I'm on a conference call with P1 right now - Credo will be supported. Similar compatibility to P1 IQ1 Series.

I'd be very surprised if the Credo was left out.

Just picked up the news of firmware updates to the camera via CF card. No longer need to have the grip or send it back to the dealer.

From reading Kevin's post on LuLu I don't think so. I believe this is a separate function built into the body no matter the back used. Someone at CI care to jump in?

I can see the banks are going to be really business handing out refi loans. LOL

Okay so i have to say it. ITS ABOUT FREAKING TIME THE NEW BODY IS HERE.

I think Phase owes me a 6 year refund of dealing with the AFI,AFII,AFIII,DF,DF+

Go have fun folks. I can't even think about this stuff. Im actually writing bills right now, its not good. LOL

Claims are that the LE mode of the 380 is significantly better than those of the 260 (which would not take too much IMO). I noticed that the LE mode of the 380 starts at iso 200.

With the 260, I had hoped that LE mode for iso 200 and 400 would produce a cleaner file in what I consider normal exposure ranges, say 1 sec to 1/250 of a sec, which did not happen. Is there any possibility for this with the 380? or will the results be similar to the 260?

Thanks
Paul

I'm guessing much of that has to do with the chip itself. Nevertheless, you would think there's a software aspect to this improvement which hopefully could manifest itself into a firmware update for the 260.

I know P+ backs aren't supported on the XF ... but, in a pinch, if you put a piece of tape over the electrical contacts of the DB, attached it to the XF and fired it via a wake-up/shutter-sync cable ... would that work ?

Sadly the 260 was baked at announce. I bet on the come for that back and lost in a big way, as I fully expected some imaging enhancement features via firmware. IMO the 260 (I have owned one from the launch) has not received any firmware updates to improve image quality. There have been many firmware updates however, just none in that area.

I based my bet, on my previous experience with the P45+ as it had several major firmware updates to improve longer exposures and high iso (200 to 400) over the years it was a prime back from Phase One.

The 160 did not see many updates but that was expected due to the fact that the chip in the 160 is the same as the P65+ and it did get quite a few updates.

The 260 being a new chip, I felt would see some tweaking at least.

Phase has been very good at delivering a new product at day of announcement recently, but it also seems that once announced, it's possible that they have already exhausted all the possible improvements to image quality. At least on the 260 this was the case.

It's also very possible they learned a few things with the 260 and have moved them to the IQ380, however with it's even smaller pixel pitch and smaller pixel wells, I will wait to see the results.
Edit, as supposedly the Live View on the 380 is "manageable" at up to 3fps in "the right light". Not sure exactly what this means either, but it seems they did improve on it. Phase makes a point of the "improvements to a CCD Live View" with the 380.
