Our good friend Ken from Transposure recently posted about custom case options from mycasebuilder.com.
But - there’s actually more to the story than one might imagine.
It has been a long time coming, but all the measurements and proportional design work for the Phase One custom shapes shown in the mycasebuilder.com shape library were created and designed by Capture Integration.
For the past 14 months, we have been accumulating, measuring, configuring, trying out, fitting, fitting, fitting over 50 different configurations containing multiple lens/body/accessory products of all shapes and sizes for all the (reasonably) possible Phase One combinations of lenses/cameras/accessories. If you only knew….
The backstory is that Capture Integration wanted to offer a custom case selection for our clients. We contacted mycasebuilder.com to set up a relationship where we could provide all the data, all the measurements and different Medium Format configurations for their library so that we could then offer these options from our digitalback.com storefront. By doing so, we wanted to create an experience so that any Phase One or Leaf/Mamiya user could simply make a few selections and be presented with a pull down menu for choosing the various components - example, Phase One IQ360, XF Camera, 55mm Blue Line lens, 4 batteries, etc. And they would all be presented in custom fitted configurations for easy selection. We have shared that data with mycasebuilder.com and also we ourselves have now launched this initiative with our CI Custom Templates
* Note that we exclusively offer custom made templates for the Phase One UK Hard Cases.
Throughout this process and going forward, we have been, and are continuing to partner with mycasebuilder.com in this endeavor.
In addition to all of the very, very specific measurements of the multitude of combinations, we received hands on input from the entire CI team and users with regard to where items should be placed in general, where they should be placed spatially or in relation to each other, even down to the exact location of the finger notches on these medium format lenses or kits, and other specific ergonomic details. We have already switched our rental cases over to the custom designed cases…
It has taken many, many, many months. We have already transmitted the data to mycasebuilder.com for their library, as our friend Ken from Transposure mentioned. To make things super easy and simple, we have taken the most likely common configurations and these are now available for purchase from our Digital Back website.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the project, which included feedback from many of our clients, and to everyone on the CI Team. A special thank you to Kristin Partridge, who spearheaded this project for CI.
On a side note - if one is interested in outfitting a Phase One VA Case, and does not already own one, you might also consider the Pelican iM2500 Case, which it is based on.
