Adapt MF lenses...

Let me check: the cheapest Leica S (the Typ 006) is about 15000€. There is an adapter for Hasselblad H lenses available for it (at 1600€).

If Hasselblad has a mirrorless body at 15000€, inclusive the adapter for H lenses and offers an adapter for the S lenses at 1600€ (together with other adapters as they see fit), they have a game changer.

They would need a decent AF system for that, of course, and the existing sensors won't do it. With the earthquake, I don't think they can use anything else than the 50 Mpix MF sensor. Maybe they can license the "translucid mirror" technology from Sony.

Then, maybe what they have is something completely different.

Their public image is fine at least regarding the people I talk to in person who don't live on and live for photo enthusiast gear forums.

It just gets old, the brand is fantastic, my CFV50c is simply superb and the company has my full support. I am proud to be a professional user of Hasselblad equipment and unlike some of the posters on forums like this one, I have never ever made jabs the likes that are seen on here and other forums to a company that is one of the most prestigious and legendary in the history of photography.
I'm not particularly sensitive I just get sick of the same old jibes form the haters.

In any case my advise is have your credit cards ready...

A Canon adapter will certainly suffice in the first year.

I would be shocked if there was an adapter for P1 lenses, but anything is possible. For sure, to make this work, they will need to accommodate current owners of H lenses.

In Dante's Forum, credit cards are always ready ;)

But I think it's still premature. All I know is that there is a new equipment announcement coming, no firm details, nor a delivery date.

I hope you have tons to share on the forum after the announcement!

Well the excitement is certainly getting to me now.

I really hope when they say it's aimed at the prosumer the cost is coming along with it. If it's more expensive that the A7 series or the cost of a 'system' is beyond that we'll be starting to encroach on 645z territory. Price is going to be the biggest determining factor if Hassy is aiming at selling these in any quantity. To me mirrorless means nothing once you stick a lens flange adaptor on it.

I miss the simplicity of owning a Hasselblad, I don't miss the cost, but I always enjoyed shooting with a H4D50. Simple controls and I always thought about what I was shooting more.

But we have stiff competition in the 50mp range now. The 645z I love but the lenses and system performance is a bit of a let down relative to my current dual 5DSr setup. If someone shoved a camera in my hand with the Sony 50mp sensor in it and said I could stick affordable glass on it without spending 2k on an adaptor then I'd be able to enjoy larger sensor photography again.

Those Canon 5DSr's are PHENOMENAL and at 3k each with the Canon glass those are the ones to pull me away from. I hope Hasselblad haven't created anything that's so niche it will stop people hitting the 'BUY NOW' button.

"But we have stiff competition in the 50mp range now."

If it only offers a crop format MF sensor and zero features past that then it's not a game changer when you look at the a7rII (on chip af, 42mp, 4K filming, sensor stabilisation, ability to use just about every lens out there etc etc) 5ds / d810 with their mature systems and usability plus af lens ranges.
I really hope this isn't a luke warm offering that only has sensor size in its arsenal. If it cherry picks features from the completion and has a decent user menu system (looking at you Sony) then it will upset the marketplace.

Seems like a resounding response that "Game Changer" better be price if it really is a mirrorless camera for the prosumer.

Hasselblad should take a leaf out of Sony's book and release a fantastic feature rich mirrorless MF camera at a price point that makes it a must have for any serious shooter. Sell us overpriced adapters so we can mount any of or old lenses onto the camera (followed by third party manufacturers - Metabones are you listening?). Then deliver your killer blow in announcing a new range of 'Hasselblad Master (HM)' lenses with leaf shutters that are optically tip top that they charge a big premium for (See Sony Gold Master) that we all then have to buy to go with our new cameras and they make shed loads selling the lenses rather than the body.

I think if you're a pleased A7r-II owner it will be difficult to see it as a "game changer".

Cameras are consolidating, become more and more similar. In the end what will basically be the selling point for MF is resolution alone, and if you already have enough why upgrade? As the development pace picks up also in medium format thanks to the CMOS technology I think the space will shrink for niche cameras like tech cams or range finders.

Anyway I think it can be a "game changer" in the medium format segment, not just Hasselblad. All it takes is a mirrorless MF system camera with decent features and a somewhat attractive price (for being medium format). That's new enough to me to call it a game changer, as it would show that a volume model is possible. Sure Pentax has already shown that with their 645z, but it's an old-fashioned design. Combining reasonable price with a mirrorless system is new.

I won't buy it of course though, as I'm that niche camera guy going down with that slowly sinking ship.

The overall trend that I think this new camera will fit perfectly into is that MF companies are going to become more consumer-oriented, and less specialist-oriented. That's where the money is. My hope is that they can maintain both things, both consumer and specialist/niche, but I seriously doubt that.

Prosumer means the cropped sensor?
Yes. There should still be a reason to get the H6 system. Likely it's also very difficult to keep an attractive price if the sensor is full-frame 645, the sensor cost becomes too high.

I will be most surprised if it's not a 44x33mm sensor... but it would be more interesting if I'm wrong, and it's a custom sized sensor from say CMOSIS.
