Possible technology to improve tech cam WA issues

An interesting patent filed by Canon reduces vignetting and false color at the edge of the sensor array by modifying the microlens. Might this be a possible solution to increasing LCC problems with WA lens on technical cameras?

Maybe ... if it was a Sony patent.

That said, since P1/HB are clearly interested in DSLRs (or mirror-less cameras like the X1D), I can't see either of them being motivated to push for any technology to improve WA issues on tech cams.
