D300 accessories

I need a new ballhead for the D300. Is the BH-40 big enough for the D300 and a 300 f/2.8 or do I need to buy the BH-55?

I have a backpack that holds a lot of gear, but I need a bag for carrying the D300 and about 4-6 lenses. Any suggestions?

Safest thing to do is take the time to add the weight of the D300 and 300 2.8 and see if the BH-40 supports it. My guess is it will be fine. You might also look at the Markins ballheads, they are top notch too. Are you looking for a smaller backpack. I like the Kata for my D3 and 3 other lenses (largest being 70-200 2.8).
