Received a new AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 ED VR today. It's relatively compact and well-made. Not "pro", but better then "consumer" quality. If you needed one all-around lens to take with you, this might be it. Here's a few images.

These first four are jpegs created from the converted dng's in LR3. Nothing else done to them. What does everybody think? Cheers, Matt

In the first one your ipod looks like a bobbehead doll!

I thought this might be a neat lens for travel or a one trick pony sort of lens. Interesting to see what you think after a little more time with it.

Michael/Jason: So far, I'm pleased. The IQ on this one seems quite good for it's range, price, and size. It could be the perfect travel lens when you want a really light, handheld, Nikon kit.

I'll be posting some more as i use it. I also ordered a 24-120mm F/4G ED VRII, which should be shipping soon. It's higher quality, but with less range. It will be interesting to compare these two.

Thanks for commenting. Cheers, Matt
