Some more shots from Yellowstone - D800E

Lower Falls - taken just after sunset.

And another from Canyon - taken around the same time as the Falls.

    jorgen

both were shot with 400 2.8 from pool deck on a D4. 'fills' the frame! think it was 9-point focus, but i get totally confused on what all those focus points do. shooting D3 and D4 for years and haven't a clue if one focus point setting is better than another. I used 1-point for the longest time, but in swimming the splash messes with it. it was on continuous focus and the 'concept' for both was back lighting. i always use manual speed, aperture and ISO--i'm too old to trust those auto features I pay the big bucks for. the other photogs were on the the other side of the pool, figuring i had no idea what i was doing. im sure they got good shots too.

Interesting what you say about focus points. I clearly prefer 11 points and layout of the D2Xs and F6 to the newer cameras, but I suppose it depends on what one's shooting

    Re: Fun with Nikon Images

Fulton and Jorgen, I don't understand focus points all that well. I am sure my a900 has all kinds of fancy focus point but I am also sure they are nothing like the Nikon or Canon bodies. Your photos are proof that great sports photos were still possible before all of this automation.

Thank you for pointing out what I am slowly figuring out: splash can kill the focal point of a photo, even in breaststroke. Anyway, please keep posting because your photos inspire me to try new things and get better.

Fulton, you headed to the World Championships in Spain?

Haven't posted here in a while! D800E and ZF.2 18/3.5 & 24-70 at the Dhammikarama Burmese Buddhist Temple in Penang, Malaysia.

And then the enormous resting Buddha at the Thai Buddhist Temple and mausoleum across the street! As you can tell, it was too big for my camera and I could only fit the feet...

    Re: Fun with Nikon Images

Revisiting some Nikon raws today and quickly ran them through the latest Capture One Pro 7.3. What a difference a few years makes when it comes to raw processors!! I'd previously processed these through Capture NX2 and was very happy with the results although some PP in photoshop was required. This time I spent literally a few minutes using C1 Pro only and I think that the results are now better.

Think about revisiting some of those old files!

    All D3/D3s & 200-400VR
