If you have access to this month's Outdoor Photographer there is a wonderful article by a gal named Cheyenne Rouse about using HDR, not for compression, but for artistic effects. She shot an old pickup truck which resulted in a stunning HDR image. I thought of you and your love for this train and wondered what HDR effects might do for an artistic rendering.

Look at the magazine if you want and can

Matt thanks. The other option is to come and let the in-laws pay for it all; for a change!! In Chicago too!!;)...
Rayyan: Sounds good to me! Wouldn't work in my case, though.

Matt, good historic record. Seems dull and desolate though.
These are lovely. I love boats. Fishing boats in particular. You have caught the color and the repair/paint needed. Very Good.
Rayyan: It was dull and desolate. It was probably a Sunday. Behind me was the, yet to be saved and renovated, Pike Place Market.

Matt, i'm happy you decided to post here one of my very favorites of yours.
While not much is perfect per se in there, it has the rare ability as a whole to take you for a stroll down memory lane -whether you know the place or not.
A unique atmosphere... there's sadness, nostalgia, solitude, but still hope.
What pops up in my mind when trying to express the mood is "tranquil desolation". Or something like that.
A rare photo.
.
Corlan: It seemed to fit here. Nice description.

Cheers, Matt.

Been involved in a bunch of property maintenance stuff. One project is replacing the field stones in the chimney of the barn. The original build wasn't that great and the mortar was rotting away. After dismantling the rotted part, the rebuild has begun. None of these are art, just a record of some of the fun stuff I'm allowed to play with in pre-retirement.
Best,
Tim
Tim: Constructive project. You know, they sell that stuff in 4x8 sheets? Kidding. Have fun.

D3, 35 1.4 Distagon:)
Steve: Sharp photo! Nice B & W. Does the bokeh have a "swirl" pattern?

Cheers, Matt.

Had the privilege of shooting the HS senior portraits of a special young lady this week. We've known her since she was a pre-teen, and always considered her cute, but quiet and shy. We couldn't have been more wrong! When we started the shoot she really came out of her shell... she lit up the place like a carbon-arc spotlight. We had a blast. Here are some results.

Lloyd, while this and the other set are both lovely, these two imho are gorgeous. She shall be proud to hang them on her wall and show it to friends.

Excellent work there grandpa!!:salute:
