oh!

i simply have to share this...the model and i thought it was just too funny. we'd been doing relatively staged sets up to this point, but then had the same thought for a final look. he was just too good at it, and as we were looking on the back of the camera, we got the chuckles. so i put the photos together into an animated gif. i wanted it to be my new profile pic on FB, but they don't allow gifs. :/

Ummm... there's something wrong with the gravity in your studio ;)

Rather cool, but I think I would become tired if I had to watch it for more than a few minutes :)

haha...blame caesar's palace on the gravity. :p

i think the life span is about 5-8 times through the cycle...OR...you become transfixed and watch it for half an hour. lmao

thanks Jorgen and Lloyd :D

i'll put up some real stuff from the shoot eventually. i also need to actually get out and shoot with the 85/1.4 that arrived the next day. it's amazing what fun toys show up in your gear bag when you sell off your MFD kit. haha.

...
So as an excursion and in order to refresh your memories of Livingston a short walkabout around West Park Street and 2nd Street (Murray Hotel, I can see vacancy, maybe for the Sam Penckinpah Suite in particular :) and the complete sign of the Empire's + multiple reflections :)).

All with D 700, 14-24mm/2.8G @ 24 mm & f/5.6, # 2 @ 21 mm, # 5 @ 15 mm

:)
But the journey had to go on:

So leaving the old copper mining town of Butte south-western means entering the idyllic variety of landscapes of Idaho soon after ...
But there are laundromats and car washes as well :) - chapter 3

Hope you like it and thank you for your interest.
Hermann: These are really terrific! a few fond (and not so fond) memories of that hotel and bar. I like these four; but, especially the last one. It's almost a cliche 'Americana' photo, but transcends that label. :salute:

You're almost to Ketchum and Sun Valley. Interesting to see your 'take' on that locale?

Cheers, Matt

Hermann, these sets are wonderful. Rich vibrant colors and compositions.

More importantly, they bring back memories of famous photographers and

their treatment of journeys across America.

My hats off for this masterful set of images. A book maybe?

Really well done.:salute:
HUGE +1 from me. I agree 100%
Rayyan, LLoyd: You're really too kind! But thanks for the compliments and I'll try my best to fulfill your praise in advance at least rudimantarily. :)

Hermann, tough to pick a favorite! Great Set!
Steve: Thanks a lot for your encouragement! :)

Hermann...dude...nicely done with the Idaho series. They're so visually interesting, and there's something real and grounded about them.

i remember driving through Idaho a few summers ago, on the way to seattle from beaver, UT, and thinking it was a beautiful place in its own little way. at the time there were rolling green hills and deep blue skies with poofy white clouds. (incidentally, at the rest stop we stopped at to use the restrooms, i got a call from my manager and was fired, for actually taking the vacation they had approved, not kidding. lol)
Daves: Thanks for your interest and for your comment. If they appear "real and grounded" to you, that exactly meets my intent. :) Weird story also ...

Matt: Thanks a lot for your comment and the kind words. Always a most welcome brainteaser to me, what capture(s) you might prefer - and my hit rate isn't that bad. But then again that's no wonder, since you mostly choose my own favorites ... :D
Regarding Ketchum and Sun Valley unfortunately I'll have to frustrate your expectations - so one more reason to come back asap!

Leaving the bucolic landscapes of Idaho to the south you'll enter Nevada. Casinos everywhere, so - maybe - you best keep your powder dry/ keep your $$ in the wallet!? And better spend your money for a hearty breakfast :) - chapter 4

Matt: Did I miss that you quitted your day job lately and now are testing new gear of all kinds fulltime? :D Very promising attempt ... :salute:
Very interesting set, Matt. I've been curious about the V1, and it's nice to see one in the hands of a photographer of known skill. Looking forward to more.
Matt, this is a winner!

Gentlemen: Thanks! Nope, still have my day job...I need one.
I'm really impressed with the camera. I read a few reviews and then was directed to Rob Gailbraith's review (http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=7-11666-11988). That sold me. It has good ergonomics and a well made, really solid feel to it. The lenses are non-plasticy, high quality, jewels. Different beast from the Nex 5N, but that works for me. Now, I have a Nikon V1, Sony Nex-5N, Sony Nex-7 (eventually), Leica M7, Leica M9-P, and Sony SLT-A77. I should stop! I'll keep posting with the V1.

Cheers, Matt

Hermann: Hard to pick a favorite here. Nothing leaps out in front of the very fast pack (that sounds like a Western saying; or, maybe English fox hunting). I think it's this one; although, I'm not sure about the plastic glasses in the foreground? Nothing much to photgraph in Sun Valley/Ketchum, anyway. Keep posting and don't hock your camera gear to play the slots.

Cheers, Matt.
