Uwe try your local Nikon dealers. Believe it or not they are getting their share of cameras, not necessarily the online camera pushers. I believe Nikon is making a concerted effort to support their brick and mortar dealers.
I keep trying to tell people building a relationship with a local dealer makes a difference. I see my friends who buy online to save $20 who are still waiting on a D800 while I was able to buy one locally.
The problem right now is Nikon is closed for inventory so no one will be getting any Nikon gear until after April 1st.
I went brick and mortar also with Camera West one our supporters here at GetDPI. Great folks too
I have a strong feeling I made a mistake preordering the E version. Preordered within hours of announcement. Didn't anticipate how strongly I'd want any version of it once people started posting photos from the non-E models. This is going to be a tortuous wait. I've heard a rumor that Best Buy is getting them so I'll probably be visiting my local Amazon showroom... I mean Best Buy, once a week.
And I wonder if there will be D4x...?
Ditto what Lee said. I pre-ordered the E via NPS through my local dealer, then realized I wanted to use the regular version until the Es were shipped, so I bought one at my same local dealer (Bedfords in Arkansas) the first day they got them (so I'll have a used d800 for sale sometime in April!). It is true that often the local guys can get stuff the big guys can't get right away. Another case in point - Bedfords got me one of the new Canon Pixma Pro printers when none of the big online stores had any yet (in fact Bedfords still has a couple I think and you can order via their online store). Since I pay the same price no matter where the equipment comes from I much prefer to deal local. Lots of Best Buy stores did get limited quantities the first day but was probably the last place folks looked for them - until the word got out via online posts.
Ditto for using local shop. Two for me are Fotocare in New York and Neptune in Garden City. You might pay a few dollars more But it is worth it to be able to get stuff that is in short supply, or to return something. Plus, these guys are very knowledgeable and just as interested in steering you right as in making the sale.

do you have bought in Robertscamera (online)? reference of this site to buy online? thanks.
Roger, thank you.
I'm still waiting for my D800/E ordered from amazon on 2/7 still no eat.
I end up buying a D800 for 3300 off Fred Miranda , the camera was purchased forest buy.
Oh well, the wait continues for the /E
Roberts camera based out of Indy is highly reputable. I have bought tons of gear from them over the years. Jody Grober heads up their pro sales dept. they are great.
thanks. i placed a preorder in crutchfield and other one in amazon. I could change for roberts. I`ll see.
In the uk try Robert White
Apparently Bestbuy will be getting them. This was just posted on Nikonrumors. I should have a NPS order in by the end of this month, but just in case I reserved one here too.
Nikon D800E available for order on BestBuy.com, will ship in 5-7 days | Nikon Rumors
I just ordered a D800E from Best Buy and received an email from them that shows an estimated pick-up (at store) date of June 6th.
get em while they're HOT ... the delivery dates are 3rd --- 9th
and you can see them disappear for visibility... put your zip in and as you check stores, so does someone else. this is the "held" units from the first shipment, not the famous "lost" second shipment.
Beat me too it. Thanks Josh for posting. I am feeling credit card heat going on around the country. Burn'em
Yep, mine says on the 6th as well.
I was just at the online (usa only) nikon store, looking at refurbs ... the D800 was on the main DSLR page and the 'shop' was available, so I pushed it... in the time I called someone who was looking, it disappeared from my cart --- ...
Funny I'm on a job had about 5 people trying to get my D800 from me. They are all on back order for them.
Here in the SF bay area there are currently five D800's listed on Craigslist. Prices are one used for $3k, the highest one is $3.6k.
Well, since I won't get a D800E until who knows when I bought a D800. Maybe one of each isn't such a bad way to go.

I woke up to an email from my Dealer at Fotocare that my D800E has arrived! It seems that at least a small shipment went out to some NPS members. I'm actually traveling, in La and heading to Phoenix tomorrow, so they are shipping it there! Now I just have to decide which lens to tell my wife to bring with her when she meets me in Phoenix! I'm glad Guy has a camera already, so he won't try to hijack the FedEx truck in Phoenix! Haha
Heck you could have had it delivered to me. I'm waiting on FedX anyway tommorrow. Not telling anyone's what's on that truck . ROTFLMAO
It was at the hotel when I arrived. Glad security kept you away from it. I only have 1 lens, so I wont be able do any real tests until next week.
Guy you seem to roll on the floor A LOT...
This is New Zealand based site. Theres 1 D4 in stock, possibly expensive. No one with the D800/E, with photowarehouse on their site saying mid-June. I could have got the E but by the time I got the email and phoned back was sold. Have now paid $500 deposit...

call your local NOW... I just got another email from Roberts and BestBuy ...
800 (aa) and Es are arriving today, tomorrow, and friday...
shipping as fast as they can get them back onto the trucks.
--- I bet this turnaround .. order, wait 2-5 weeks, pickup item -- is going to be the pace for the next several months.
I cancelled my Pre-order (feb7 with NYC) weeks ago. have been able to get several 800* just ..
In our area, it is still 4 to 6 weeks back order. You need to pay $500 deposit to get in the que.
In CL black market, it is usually $500 premium, most of them purchased from Amazon and trying to make profit or those who decided later not to go with D800/D800E.
However what I understand is Nikon warranty is VOID when there is ownership change. I don't know if there is any work around.
It looks as it's somewhat faster in other countries than Denmark. I order out of 5 retailers, large and small.
I'h figured out that with the pace Nikon delivers with now,
I'll get my first D800 in August 2013, and the lates one will be shipped January 2015.
any slower.. or do i take the slowest price here...
We have one for sale here in the B&S from a great member. Go take a look
I ordered a D800 from Best Buy about a week and a half ago, it's scheduled for pick up tomorrow. Fingers crossed....
Which BB store. I'm in Phoenix
I'm okay . Was thinking about a E but I may wait till Photokinia I have a D800 and a D7000 also. I'll get my Zeiss 18 first , than set on glass for now.
Pramote already sold his D800. I should have checked first before posting. Sorry if I raised anyone's hopes needlessly.
Guy, you've gotta get an "E". Best Buy stores are expecting to have them tomorrow, at least for some lucky customers.
For a brief second, Best Buy had these available to order via their website. To be honest, I was at work when I was surfing the internet during lunch and went to the Best Buy website. I checked for the D800, saw it was available, logged into my Best Buy account, and put it in my shopping cart. I was about to place the order when my boss called, and suddenly I had a number of projects that needed to be completed immediately.
I forgot to place the order...and I was so busy for the next 3-4 days I simply had not time to think about the D800. When I finally remembered, I went back to the Best Buy website and once again checked for the D800. But now it was unavailable to order online. Obviously I was disappointed, but then I looked up and saw "1 item" in my shopping cart. Lo and behold, the D800 was still there. I figured...what the heck place the order and see what happens. Well the order went through, and the camera is suppose to be available for pick up tomorrow.
On a side note, I know a few people who have walked into Best Buy and were able to place their order for a D800. The camera generally showed up 5-10 business days later.
With all this talk about the /E, and how hard they are to come by, again after seeing all the comparisons between both versions, do we (I) really even need an /E???
I guess I am falling victim to the "something I really want" but I can't get one is the real reason I want one.....
My D800E just shipped from Amazon! Arrival tomorrow.
This is gonna be a red-letter weekend!!!
I got an email to from amazon but my delivery date is July 5th, but in the mean time, I got one today paid a little more for it, about $175.00 more then if I purchased on from my local dealer which is a 7 hour drive for me considering having to pay 8% sales tax.
Well, I got an original delivery estimate of June 27-July 17 a few days ago, so I suspect the estimates are very conservative. Better to ship early than keep adding delays even if the final ship date is the same.
I picked up my D800 from Best Buy a couple of days ago. Looking forward to going to the Zoo this weekend and testing out my new toy.
