Rather than a feature it is a necessity to deal with variations in optics and manufacture, easy to see if you need it, focus on a point and see if the shot is accurate! If it isn't then you can adjust the point to bring individual lenses in to correct focus. On my 200f2 I needed to adjust on both the D800 and D800E, same with the 50mm but to a lesser extent. It's just a calibration tool, some may need it some won't.

I have had 4 of these bodies, 2 800's and 2 E's. All of them but the last had left a/f issues and needed allot of A/F fine tune adj. and some of them ran out of adjustment. I feel lucky my 800e that I have now is much better. My 50 1.4, 85 1.4, 105 2.8, 200 f2 and 400 2.8 need no adjustment. My 24-70 and 70-200 do need adjustment, i believe no more than +/- 5.
Now the new 810 is coming out and I'm tempted but dont want to go thru that brain damage again. Any way thats my A/F fine tune story.

Check every lens on both my Nikons, use as necessary. Works as advertised. Would never buy a CanNikon body again w/o it.
