EVF on a High MP OVF Camera for Ultimate Focus

So I came within a day of buying the new new L SL as my eyesight is
less than ideal at 60+ years.

Then I realized that a big mirrorless with limited DR and
smaller MP count would not be the best choice for someone
who shoots rocks trees and anything that cannot talk back.

So I dug around in the closet and this is my Nikon Frankenfinder ...

Works like a dream ... not for the feint of heart or for street work
but it is fine hand held and very very good on a tripod. Especially in
very bright contrasty light where you cannot even see the LCD on the
back of the camera.

So I guess I can keep my Otus 55 85 ZF.2 135 25 and Nikon 50 F 1.2
for a bit longer ... :ROTFL:

Nikon D810 50 F 1.2 Zacuto EVF Pro

Camera in LV at 100% mag and the EVF at one to one pixel magnification is dead on accurate.

Not recommended for sports or fashion runway shots.

Thank you for this post. I've been considering this for a while, particularly for video use. What kind of batteries does your monster eat? What was the cost of the exercise?

HI Jorgen,

I was offered a new D4s at a surprising discount but am so enamored with the D810
I passed.

I purchased the Zacuto as a close out a number of months ago ... $400 for the EVF Pro

My second as I had one a couple of years ago for video at >$995

It uses the Canon LP-E6 which is the common battery for the Canon 7D 5D
... my wife has a 7D and a couple of batteries ... I now have about 6 of them.

So in respect to full disclosure I own a Zacuto EVF Pro Convergent Design 7Q+
and Black Magic Video Assist. The latter two are wonderful but still a bit challenged
in very bright light. I may move to the Zacuto Gratical at a future date.

Thanks Bob. The one I've been considering lately is the Blackmagic. It seems like a good deal and their Micro cameras look like interesting supplements to the D810.

As for the D4s, I might have to skip that one for several reasons, and the D810/D700 combo does work very well :)

Yes the D4s is a bit long in the tooth ... 16 mp is a bit low without 4K or any other
assist at this point.

The D5 may be the answer if it arrives with the specs suggested by the clairvoyant. :buggies:

And the BM looks good ... I have to take it out into the Texas sun to see if it will be that useful
without a loop. And it is only HD not 4K.
