Added. Found a little more info - will be announced this week. For FF, no VR. What's the difference between an "E" lens and a "G" lens?

    Here is the translation :

    https://translate.google.com/transla...tml&edit-text=

E lenses (not to be confused with the ancient ones) mean electromagnetic diaphragm. All Nikkor AF lenses use mechanical actuated diaphragm blades. The electromagnetic diaphragm get rid of that for a more precise control of the lens especially during burst. It is a transitional way to Nikon to get rid of some mechanical stuff inside DSLR bodies. I think it is a way to Nikon to move Mirror-less soon.

If this is true, I'm in. Good thing that I still have the D300. The D2Xs and F6 aren't compatible other than wide open. I can see myself shooting portraits with this using the F6 and Pan F Plus 50 though.

The PC-E lenses had them. Identical to the EOS lenses only in F mount.

    It saves money for Nikon.

I am glad to see this lens from Nikon. Looks delicious.

I'm looking very hard at the Otus line because pretty unique and stellar IQ. I will see how this lens "draw" when tests will be online. Might save me some $ and add AF by the same time.

This is for sure a marvelous lens!

For me too heavy and large, but it is a special purpose lens.

Wonder how many they will sell ....

They will sell one to me... as soon as I can afford it. 105mm on FX and 158mm eqv. on DX mostly cover my travel telephoto needs. I just decided (for the umpteenth time) to keep my Zeiss 21mm, and those two primes plus the 24-120mm to cover everything between would probably be a great travel setup. The question is: another D810 or something new and revolutionary that will be launched at Photokina.

Well, I am getting interested in this lens. Especially instead of a 1.4/85G, that is almost as expensive. And combining it with the 1.4/58 this might give a great combo and both stunning glass. One more reason to stay in Nikon FF territory (with my D810).

    Some more content https://www.slrlounge.com/new-nikon-...l-ready-order/

WRT something new at PK2016 - I do not see anything coming, also no D820 or whatever that would be called. I had hope myself they would launch something revolutionary, but I think we still have to stick with the D810 for some more time. Not a bay camera at all though

Ooh, what a wonderful Xmas präsent!

I'm really interested in this Lens - could be a stunning successor to the old legendary 105mm AiS.

    Thanks for Posting this info.

Thank you for posting the photos Hulyss. This looks like a must have. Not only does it offer unique opportunities, but transitions and general rendering look fantastic as well. This also means that I should buy a D810 again. Looks like I will get a couple of great Christmas gifts from myself this year

I do not really like the picture in itself because she's technically crap, but it give the general mood of this lens yes. Of course I'm not the author of those pictures... Simple google image search and links over here to avoid one more click bait or whatever.

    Full size samples here:
    https://www.flickr.com/photos/petapi...57668716365503

When looking at the samples, I get a feeling that this lens is somehow in the same category as the 58mm f/1.4, although sharper wide open. It renders beautifully and is plenty sharp, but it will require a skilled photographer to achieve the best results. It is absolutely possible to take boring photos with this thing, as some of the samples show. I will give it a go as soon as I can afford it, working towards my long term (2-3 years) Nikon project: 15mm (Irix), 21mm (Zeiss), 35mm, 58mm, 105mm, hopefully a new 180mm and the 300mm pf at the long end.

I can't argue There is a look to the 105 DC that is difficult to define but somehow delicious to my eyes. But admittedly the bokeh on the new lens appears smoother, and it definitely has a good look that is different from the DC -- I'm just not sure I find it "better" to my eyes than the 105DC...

I still have he 105/1.8, and although I've put it up for sale, I've set the price unrealistically high, so it probably stays. I'm mostly using m4/3 cameras at the moment, but might buy a Speed Booster to use that Nikkor on the E-M1.

Did Nikon do enough to pay the double premium? IMHO, no. Then again, I am not enough of a portrait photographer to pay the double premium.

IMHO there is far too much hype about this lens!

I used to have several versions of the 1.4/85, the last one being the 1.4/85G and especially with that last version I was not happy.

I cannot see the 1.4/105 being mich better IQ wise, but for sure much much more heavy and larger in size

Re: New Nikon 105 f/1.4 soon. Yummy !!!

I received this lens when it first was released in late August . It is by far the best Nikkor (IMHO) with maybe the exception of the 200/2 and the 400/2.8 telephotos . Paired with a D5 you can shoot sports (tennis) wide open (F1.4) and rarely miss focus .

My apology for being so far behind in post processing that I don t have decent examples (yet ). I used the lens extensively in a week shooting the US Open Tennis . Its in a special category and worthy of the hype .

Gawd, it's a monster! Heavier than my 55 Otus and uses 82mm filters. Will have to rent one and find out if there's any magic.

Hm... It's even on par to Otus lenses - http://diglloyd.com/blog/2016/201610...ndyMeadow.html . almost, but that's a good news actually!

'Trouble with E lenses is that they are much harder to adapt than AIS or even G lenses, if you happen to want to use them on a mirrorless body.

Thom offers something of a review. Note he tested on the D5 in a sports environment. I believe he wanted to test the new focus motor in a trying environment. I doubt many will use the lens this way. None the less it is an interesting read.

No problem. I am here to serve.

As a VERY LONG TIME Nikon/Nikkor user, I stumbled upon Thom's blog about 15 years ago. I respect his opinion.

Lens rentals have said this "From an MTF standpoint, this is the sharpest f/1.4 lens Nikon has made. It may be the sharpest f/1.4 lens, period."

    Here's the link.. https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/201...f-bench-tests/

I received mine a few days ago but haven't tested it properly but casual use in ultra low light @f1.4 on a D5 at ISO 3200 and its excellent, sharp and fast accurate AF!!

I agree with Jack that the bokeh is just a bit different. Different again from what I remember of my 105 f/2.5. I have the 135mm DC lens now and I have grown quite fond of the bokeh. The roll off between DOF and OOF is sweet to me. But for romantic reasons I really liked the 105mm f/2.5. I thought that Huylss's images were quite good.
