Thanks much Steen...... Spring here in Tennessee is very short lived.... it goes from mild winter to short spring to hot summer.

Amorphophallus titanum, a very rare plant that grows in the wild only in the equatorial rainforest of Sumatra, Indonesia.

The plant flowers only infrequently in the wild and even more rarely when cultivated.

This flowering specimen is from the Botanic Garden, Copenhagen, Denmark, 10. - 11. July 2014.

Steen,

You left out the best part. This plant, like the related one we have/had here in Wash. D.C., when it blooms, it's well known to emit a unmistakable smell of a rotting corpse that can fill a large area. Fortunately it lasts for only 24 hrs. Good thing our cameras don't "yet" have a "smell-o-rama" feature built in, that captures the odor of our subjects.

Lovely thread!

The Viburnum shrub (Viburnum x bodnantense) has been flowering for some time and the bees are happy that there is at least some food to find at this early stage of the spring.

Here captured with an old AI-converted Nikkor-S Auto 1.4/50mm, a ~ 55 years old optical design (1962)
Lots of old prime lenses of many different brands and nationalities show nice rendering and interesting aberrations (apropos an ongoing discussion in the Sunset Bar about especially old german optics and their charming rendering and aberrations).
The best part is that many of these very old optics are exceptionally cheap nowadays .-)
