    Hi,
Please forgive my ignorance but SPP Monochrome is a way of processing files ??
I've become interested in the little Sigma cameras and I'm trying to learn about them

Yes, there is a monochrome tab within the Sigma processing software that allows you to do the B&W look - add grain, etc.

I'll say it again...the DP Merril section has the most artistic compositions and it's images rival the Lecia MM! Nice!

DP1X handheld holiday snap, converted to mono to remove the nasty purple flare!

I sold the camera and instantly regretted it, think I might look at purchasing a Merrill?

Did anyone notice that SPP since v.5.5.2 produces less detailed monochrome images than prior versions? Before 5.5.2 I didn't notice that, but now color TIFFs converted in LR to B&W look way better.

I have only used version 5.5.2. I tend to like the B&W from SPP better, but no matter what, I always bring images into LR for further tweaking.

It seems appropriate that dead trees are shot in B+W. A touch of grain, not too rough, in SPP. I really like the B+W results that you can get out of SPP without too much effort.

    This one's dead:

    Bananas
    SPP noise is addictive

BTW, anyone knows why there's no option for SPP Sepia conversion? In camera high iso Sepia JPGs are amazing!

Discovered a bug in SPP 6, when exporting Sepia toned (thank you Sigma!) 16-bit TIFF image, that causes a solid cyan bleeding in clipped highlights. 8-bit TIFF file is fine. See attached files:

Re: Foveon Sensor, SPP Monochrome - Images

After further work with SPP Monochrome it turns out the bug affects an image when either "Shading Effect" or "Film Grain" is enabled. Artifacts are apparent when a file is exported into 16-bit TIFF.

    Malina

    Just saw this

Perhaps apply filters in PP. Seems SPP is outputting only 8 bit (JPEG default) despite request of tiff 16 bit?
Obviously trying is leaving some crashed files behind...

It seems like SPP 6 can't process new features (Film Gain, Shading Effect, Toning Adjust) properly in 16-bit TIFF output. The bug is still present in v6.0.5

Re: Foveon Sensor, SPP Monochrome - Images

There are so many master shots on these DPM threads, not at least this one.

It is sad the SPP 6 still suffers from very childish deceases. This is no RAW converter to offer its clientele so long time after the launch.
