I don't have the DP1m, but rather the 45mm equiv DP2m, so its not really apples to apples with the GR, however, the GR is about on par with any other good 16meg camera, like a Fuji XE-1 or m4/3. Nice sharp images edge to edge from the very good lens, and decent, but not class leading high ISO.

The Merrill's on the other hand far exceed it in terms of resolution, even slightly besting my 24meg RX1, but only at base ISO of 100.

Really just totally different cameras as the GR is quick to focus, has nice battery life (shares same battery as the Sigma's in fact) and you can use it at higher ISO's, its very customizable, etc

DP's really aren't too fun as a general shooting camera. Awesome when you can compose a nice shot at ISO100, as the detail is unreal, but otherwise they aren't very fun to shoot.

I'd rather view them as a compliment for one another, and both are pretty great values (plus share a battery)

GR for snapshots, street stuff, night shots etc, DP for landscapes, working from a small tripod etc

sorry but they are taken at Vivid as I got used to the neutral on the GRD4 was too pale. But now this seems a bit too harsh and it does a bit too much sharpening too by this setting

    iso 1100 1/200 2.8

    iso 200 1/200 5.6

It's only over the doorway, to keep rain off your head.

Variations on this theme were common, usually miniature peaked roofs that projected a few inches from the wall.

Gutters over the doors would be superfluous in Ireland, given the "soft" nature of the weather

And, sadly, most thatched roofs have been replaced by corrugated iron.

    Re: FUN with Ricoh GR!!!

I rented a GR for the weekend. A few shots below. I now get the GRD cult thing. Overall one of the best handling, most enjoyable cameras I've ever used, with great files. I was hooked from the start. The issue for me now is 28mm. A bit too close for me as a "normal" lens. But I'm thinking the GR and my Nex 7 with a 50 (75 FOV) might make a great combo.

Even in the 35mm crop mode the GR will yield a superior image

Love macro on the GR. Found a nice Canon 50mm/f1.4 LTM metal push on lens cap on eBay a little over a week ago for $14 including shipping from Japan. Arrived today.

I think we'll be friends - I like 28mm, and the IQ looks really good. Not so sure about the case with it's pull off top!
I've sold my Fuji X20 and the RX100 to fund it - so it had better be good!

we seem to follow each other around!

Here are a couple from this evening - I'm seriously impressed with the lens (I always loved Pentax / Ricoh operation, so that's no surprise). It's sharp right up to the corners, has a nice bokeh and also seems to have some character.

I couldn't decide whether I liked the colour or the black and white better here . . . . despite grumpy reports about the colour in the DNG files, I've found it to be excellent in Aperture - really nice and natural (which of course means 'natural to me' )

Jono, You already seems to, be getting well along together, hand in hand.
And for the first time in a long run, for my part, this afternoon, I felt the calling from the camera, just to do some simple silly let-the-camera-do-the talking-silly-Jpeg's....just to explore the family-relations with the splendid IV.
And "Dyrehaven" was calling too, and the late afternoon, bright sunshine and a comfort temperature at only 22Celsius, the air was soft and gentle in the face, and one couldn't help a soft smile between the ears....so it was about getting primitive once again, I could hear the GR grumble.

TAv groundsettings: 1/4000, f/16 (=25.600 iso). Snapdistance 2.5m. When hitting the 25.600 iso-barrier its turning speed down.
JPEGS and no PP whatsoever, just the way the camera felt to do it.

Weather- sealed . . oh no - not at all.
A small splash of coffee on the top plate immediately arrived in the battery compartment.
It'll be drying for the rest of the week, then who knows what happens.

Well, the advantages of no sealing, is that it'll dry out quick as well. I drove 30 miles today with the roof down, and held the camera so that it had 70mph wind up it's battery compartment. This seems to have done the trick - the front dial is slightly idiosyncratic, but I think it's settling down, everything else appears to be working properly.

However - take care - it's obvious that there isn't any kind of protection - just try blowing into the front dial gap - the air comes out easily and everywhere - keep this camera away from water!
