When: Tuesday October 16th through Friday October 19th 2012, with resort checkout Saturday October 20th after breakfast.
Where: Zion National Park
Format: Slightly different from our normal – Zion is a very target-rich environment so this is intended to be primarily a shooters excursion, meaning more shooting time and less classroom instruction. Guy and I will provide on-location instruction and advice for our typical early morning and late afternoon/evening shoots, however given the time of year and nature of the topography of Zion, shooting times begin and extend later in the mornings as well as begin earlier in the afternoons. While this means more shooting time each day, it leaves less time for instruction sessions in-between – and we all need some personal time! I will reserve a conference room for Thursday afternoon (18th) so we have a place to meet and process images as a group.
Gear: Any camera or system you desire to use is welcome.
Special Note: Because of the structure, we will be limiting this workshop to 6 (possibly 8) attendees total. Transportation in the main valley is by shuttle only as it is closed to cars, and Guy and I will be driving smaller vehicles to the more remote shooting locations nearby. Also, please understand that these transportation constraints limit our ability to accommodate travel companions that are not paid attendees of the workshop.
Accommodations: As usual, meals (breakfast and dinner) as well as the rooms themselves are included in the workshop tuition. For this trip we have reserved you suites at the “Cable Mountain Lodge” (Cable Mountain Lodge :: Privacy Ploicy :: Zion National Park Hotel, Motel :: Springdale, UT) just outside Zion Park proper – yes, it’s a very nice place! Be sure to pack a swimsuit!
Travel: Another major strategic issue with putting on a workshop in Zion is getting there; it isn’t close to any major airports – 2-1/2 hour drive from Las Vegas, 4 hour drive from Salt Lake City. There is an executive airport at nearby St. George UT, which is about 20 minutes outside Springdale, the town at the entrance to Zion where we’re staying. There is also a shuttle service from McLaren/Las Vegas to St. George that is very reasonable – about $40 each way, but again, it’s about a 2 hour shuttle. Depending on who expresses interest in that option, we will research further and try to get you details soon. We may be able to supply you a ride from St. George airport to the park, or you can do a cab. Other option if you want some freedom is to rent a car and drive in from either Vegas, St. George, or even Salt Lake. We’ll assist you in organizing this last leg of the arrival once we know who is coming into where and at what time. Finally, you are welcome to arrive at the Lodge the evening before, but you will want to call early to confirm availability and reserve your room for that extra night at the Lodge . If you opt for this, let us know and let them know you are on our GetDPI workshop so you don’t have to deal with a room change when the workshop officially starts.
Tuition for the above portion: $3750 per person.
So there it is! Be sure to let us know if you are interested right away since we’re limited to 6. Also, please make sure you copy both Guy and I since we'll both be traveling off and on for the next few weeks.
Thanks and hope to see you in Zion!
