Who can make prints 40x50 or larger?

I have a client that would like a very large print of one of my photographs. Seems to be a trend to get very large (thinking 40 x 50) and to use them in place of the 4' x 6' painting. The client is in NYC . (I have sent David at Dale Labs a note on this directly).

Sorry Roger.

Been really busy today getting all the new Leica goodies up on our website.

Yes, we can make you 40xwhatever prints. No problem. For B+W we use the Cone Editions Quad Tone Sepia and Selenium tones on Photo Rag or Condor BW. Carbon pigments, 100% cotton rag. Exhibition quality.

I'll give you a call tomorrow.

Sorry Woody ..the question is the title. I am just looking for some insights/experience from those that make or have a lab make really large prints. I know many of you make your own large prints up to a certain size..but then if you want it larger you use a lab..like Dale. I haven t done any of this..a 17 x 22 is my largest. Thanks Roger

Here is my advice.

You are a very capable photographer, and have gear galore to make superb images.

If you are really interested in making very large prints, I would suggest you can do it yourself instead of using labs. (Although I would admit that firms like Dale can do wonderful work) My perspective is that printing is one of the many joys of image making and certainly you can afford the price of entry to great printing machines.

I have the Epson 7800 which does a very credible job of making prints with a 24" maximum width. I am now considering getting one of the new generation printers and will probably settle on the 9880 or the 10880 to get both larger prints and the new inksets now available from Epson. Of course I could get labs to do this work but I am kind of set on doing this work myself and believe I can do a pretty good job of matching their work.

maybe you can even have you lovely wife produce one of her new books at a format of 36" wide...........LOL!

Have fun whatever you do and bring the light.

Woody First I wish the best with your hand . When I was in therapy for my shoulder, the therapist was a hand specialist. I have seen what it takes and encourage you to keep after it as much as you can.

You are right about printing your own but with two houses ..its pretty frustrating. Once you get everything calibrated and on a roll ..its time to move. So I really need printers in both Florida and Atlanta. I am waiting for the 3880 ..if it ever appears.

The type of large prints I was seeing in NYC were in that 30-40+ size . Since many of these were from tri x negatives , they had that classic look. Here is a picture of an example.

This is what people are looking for in large black and white prints. I was looking for any labs that might be printing these. Of course, there are lots of labs that can print poster size but I was looking for something thats museum quality. Thanks Roger
