Hi Wayne,

Interesting project. Where did you get the inspiration from to start making photographs that look like cyanotypes ? I like the effect. In photo #7 the flash makes it look like you had to put up lights to light the forrest, which is very weird, because who'd want to put up lights for a scene like that ?

In #5, there is a white circle just off-centre left, which is a bit strange.

Thanks for sharing,

Peter.

hi peter,
i think i first saw the cynotypes of anna atkins

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Atkins

in this gorgeous book (very cheap used, recommended)

http://www.amazon.com/Flora-Photogr...=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1254751834&sr=8-9

on the web they don't look nearly as beautiful as they really are. i thought i'd see what i could do with imitating the process.

as photographers the tools we now have incredible. and i recommend looking long and lovingly at the history of photgraphy. here are two fascinating and available books:

http://www.amazon.com/At-First-Sigh...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1254752171&sr=8-1

http://www.amazon.com/Photodiscover...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1254752231&sr=1-1

get them while you can. a dealer told me the collectible cost of photo books going up faster in value than others. used to be i could get books for pennies that i can't get now at all.

thanks for the comments. (circle: the moon).

Wayne, I like #5 a lot. I immediately thought "moon" when I saw it. The mood of the photo is in harmony with the treatment. for trying different treatments.

thanks, cindy. you've certainly been a good example and guardian angel! it is hard at times to stay within the realm of photography. the constraints can feel too binding. today i got to playing around with plugins. these started out as the same photograph - no, wait, i think the third one a cloud picture. the computer can certainly take you into other realms.

best,
wayne

Beautiful! The second one is my favorite. The third looks like a sea-shell.

I see what you mean. Excellent artistics, btw. As for which road to take in photography, I have yet to come across a field that does not interest me:)

Hi,

I see what you mean. Excellent artistics, btw. As for which road to take in photography, I have yet to come across a field that does not interest me:)
So true. Because of this thread, I started reading up on alternative processes. Mike Ware's site is a true gem: aside from describing how to make a traditional cyanotype, he also invented an improved process that also has shorter exposure times.

I'm visiting this forum since I noticed I would never drag my DSLR around everywhere and I was looking for a compact to add to it. Finally last weekend, I bought an LX3 in London. But a friend there also gave me a Diana, which is a 6x6 Lomo camera. That and this thread is now making me think seriously about starting a photography project about the new house (with a groveyard and small forest) I just bought. I'm thinking cyanotype contact prints, with the sensitizer brushed onto paper.

So, thanks to all who are sending me down this road. It's nice to see there's others who may be in a compact camera forum, but who have interests that go far beyond that !
