The Marketing departments heed the cry more is better
Most non-photographers upon seeing any of my cameras immediately ask "how many mega-pixels?"
They don't seem to understand image quality arguments until confronted with big prints.
My K100D and Fuji S6000fd are both 6.1 mp, my GRD 8.
I have never yet felt the "need" for more resolution.

thanks. a good read. i'm revisiting the d-lux 2. when the d-lux 3/lx2 came out with more megs, the reviews said the image quality 'almost' as good as the d-lux 2!

i work on the audio/visual/computer department of a uk department store and today we got in one of the new sony compacts with 14.1 mega pixels. whats the need in that?

it did have face detection and a smile shutter though, which obviously makes up for the all the noise you're gonna get. ;o)
