It was the first mobile handset I know of to be used to compare against dslrs, etc.
The 1020 does not get this glory, and instead gets put against the likes of the other smart phones like the Sony Z and the Samsung s4 etc
I guess you have to do your own analysis from the comparison charts. For instance, you can put the 808 against the likes of the Canon 5d3, or the Nikon D800. Also there is alot of m43 cameras, and high end point and shooters you can put the 808 against.
DPR has to be careful not to tread on other dedicated digicam brands, so they really cannot compare smart phones to conventional cameras directly. It just would not look good if they published an article stating that a tiny 41MP cellphone camera can outresolve the likes of a Canon 5D3 full frame DSLR in ideal situations.
DPR is at least nice enough for pixel peepers like us to go in there and use their studio comparisons to make our own judgement call when comparing a mobile phone against a digicam.
lovely autumn colors Carl!! Also you got to love how the 808 does blue skys, it becomes even more blue when the ND filter in engaged
Carl love the natural greens coming through the image, and the autumn trees in the background. Autumn is such a lovely season.
Mazor, Great detail in the bird shots and no visible moire in the feathers (or did you remove it?).
carl, only applied saturation and USM. and cropping when necessary. I did not remove moire, and actually do not know how to. Is there a plugin to remove moire?
These shots were captured using pureview 8mp mode on the 808. Even at full resolution, I would imagine diffraction would be more dominant that moire. I am pretty certain there would be diffraction issues capturing at full resolution onto such a tiny high resolution sensor. The JPG output from the pureview modes on the 808 has a nice analogue feel to it. Plus it is one of the few digicams that effectively is bayer free when using pureview modes so no moire should be present
I just love the way one can push colors on the 808. So simple yet flexible.
ah ok, I suspect that will be avail on CS5 too then I guess. But anyway for 1020, it will be important that they make the pureview algorithm usable, with Nokia black so that users can take full advantage of the over sampling technology and be bayer free and hence no moire
Works for portraits too
Some full resolution Vineyard captured with the 808 of course

Here's one with bad lighting and motion blur. I had fun taking it anyway. I'm the person standing behind her, taking the photo with stretched out arms. Without the Nokia, the photo wouldn't exist. Must be good then
Yup, the strange thing is when I applied the film simulation that added grains, the image seems to sharpen up naturally! It is almost like the granular effect helps bring out parts of the image that was previously just a little too smooth.
Nokia 808 @ f/2.4, ISO 400 and 1/11s
Thanks carl, just aded saturation, no sharpening or usm! Took me a while to find the pigs eye lol
It may be old school now, but I still love my 808.
Another from the Nokia. My lamented Macey Grey kitty
love the cloud pic! fantastic!
