i really am in love with infrared and just bought a converted canon g6 off ebay. it makes the familiar strange, per tolstoy's advice. however, that by itself not enough. just cause the trees go white.

I'm not sure if this question makes sense, but is the output of digital cameras converted to infrared in black and white?

thanks, don.
enjoying the infrared.

hi bob,
not necessarily. the digital sensors have a filter to take out infrared so the the magenta not too strong. usually, if you want to hand hold, you need to have that removed. the most popular company seems to lifepixel, though there are others and many people take a chance and remove it themselves. you can find info in a number of books and googling.
that said, some cameras still sensitive and a wonderful camera of some time ago, the sony 717, will shoot night-shot infrared with the click of a switch. put an infrared filter on it and double the effect.
i have bought two more modified cameras off ebay this last week. a canon g6 which shoots raw and has a 2.0 lens and a minolta 7d with an infrared filter to attach. both were incredibly cheap, as cameras go these days.
i've shot more with the dslr. yesterday at a local swimming hole. here are a few more examples.
