A few images taken with my GRD2, same day as the straw macro shot.

Will I love the first (Gull) and the last most.
They are ALL great!
The Gull is something Iconic in its pose and lighting. You could only get that extreme depth-of-field using a small sensor camera.
The last is exquisite in its tonal range!

Thanks. The light was really good there and it seems to have come through in the images. I was so lucky with the sea gull. It was having a hard time balancing on the post and didn't mind me walking right up close to take the shots, then it spread its wings to get away from me and that was the last image got.

Great images, like the 3rd and 4th with the gull, very nice pose :).

I agree with Cris. But the seagull portrait is really good! Wonderful sharpness.

Thanks guys.

I'm particularly proud of getting a portrait like that of the seagull with a 28mm lens rather than a long zoom. Of course with a long lens I wouldn't have the Brighton sea front in focus, which is what makes this image so unusual I think. Incidentally I only cropped the top and bottom off the image, I could have put my hand out and touched the bird I was so close. Might not have come away with all my fingers if I had though.

This is a photo from nearly the same place, I think. Taken with a nikon d70, at f/11 - background is still slightly out of focus, but it looks ok.

Nice shot. Interesting how much the perspective is foreshortened.

Here is one of my friend when it headed off. Looks like it is about to do a Godzilla attack on Brighton tower blocks!

Godzilla was right behind you!
This shot was taken a few feet away (with a D2x, but I guess I'll be excused)

It also strikes me, when comparing with your photos, that the grd lens is much better than my nikon d70 kit lens. It's something I notice all the time when going through my photos (sold the d70 a while back, now only have the grd II). On the other hand the GRD can't be compared to the nikon in terms of the dynamic range, color range, and just generally in what one can get out of the raw files.
