Jono: I especially like the first one: warm, rich, color and shiny bits. I took the A77 out to play on the weekend. Now, I'm contemplating a little more A-mount glass.

Cheers, Matt

Thanks Matt
The A77 really is rather good isn't it - I always thought the Olympus E1 was the perfect sized camera (and I wasn't alone). The A77 is actually exactly the same size (despite appearances).

I really like the 70-300G - it's small, decent IQ, quiet to focus and not a silly price. Of course, the 70-210 is faster - but it's also twice the price and nearly twice the weight.

. . then there's the 24mm Zeiss . . . and the 135 f1.8 . . .

It amazes me at just how good some of the Tamron glass is when used on Sony cameras. I am not a third party glass kinda guy but years ago I knew some Minolta glass was rebadged Tamron glass. Figured if it was good enough for Minolta then I needed to see if they were good enough for me. I know one rebadged Tamron was my 28-75 f2.8 and it is still a favorite of mine today.
Jim, I had a visitor here earlier this year from an Australian photographer who also posts here. He is an A77 user and he has a good collection of Tamron lenses which he allowed me to try. I only have the one Tamron 200-500 and I really enjoy using it. He also mentioned to me that Sony have a substantial financial stake in Tamron! Certainly the Tamrons seem to suit Sony Alpha cameras rather better IMHO than Sigma lenses.

Here's a little 'cosplay'. New word and experience for me.

Just got my A77 last week. I hope to add some shots to this soon. I have a 70-200 but I think I will swap that for the 70-300 because the 70-200 is just WAY too big for me physically.

HiredArm: Great! The 70-300mm is supposed to be an excellent lens. I've been lusting after the 70-200, but, it is big.

Yeah I also read about a new or revised 70-200 coming out later this year. I should post a comparison between my largest Leica lens (90 Summicron and the 70-200.) It's ridiculous because the A77 really isn't all that large. Actually it fits my hands really well. Just want to read some 70-300 reviews but the results look good here.

That'll be interesting ... the current Sony 70-200/2.8 APO is already super fabulous, (IMO, better than the Canon or Nikon versions I used previously) ... so I can't imagine what they'll do to it to improve it even more. Maybe they are looking to a 70-200/4 or 3.5 to get the size down for the newer cameras?

Wish Sony would work on lenses that are lacking or missing. A modern 35/1.4 ASPH with floating element for close focus and better lens coatings would be nice, as would a pro spec 50mm f/1.2 ... and even maybe a TS wide-angle, or a 100 APO macro.

Marc it is my understanding the changes to the 70-200 and 70-400 will be weatherproofing and Nano lens coatings.

Rumor of a new focus motor as well similar to the motor in the new 500 f4.... guess we will have to wait to find out for sure.

Bill that Coucal is amazing... I had never seen one in my life until a few months ago when one appeared in my yard in Brisbane, Australia.... now yours, not quite the same as this one, but definitely a relative. Thanks for posting that, now I have two in my list to view.

Shot with Tamron 18-270 PZD. SONY SLT-A77V, f/6.3 @ 250 mm, 1/400, ISO 400, No Flash

Pheasant Coucal - Centropus phasianinus. Of 20 Coucal's found worldwide, this is the only one in Australia.

Great shots all around. Just back from China, and lots of photos to fiddle with.
The A77 really is a nice camera to use.
