I took pictures of a sun halo with the Zeiss yesterday. I am surprised by how well it did being that I pointed it directly at the sun. HaloTop Dog Imaging

Zeiss 24-70 Handles the Sun

Try that with the sun at an oblique angle. One of the dissapointments for me with this lens is its tendency toward significant green and red flare circles any time the sun is either in or near the frame. I now carry a piece of cardboard and a lond articulatin clamp-arm in my kit, dedicated for use in shading the lens.
