I do not know where you reside but if you live in the States and like that sort of thing you should visit "The Grounds for Sculpture" in N.J.
    It's amazing.

The Southwestern US has many Rock Art sites.
Visited this one in Nevada the other day.
It's called the "Khota Circus" after the name of the person who discovered it.

I sometimes wonder whether photographing artwork could be considered 'lazy' - but I love to see all captured art, and this second shot is beautiful. Thanks for sharing!

I don't see how taking a photo of artwork is really substantially different from photographing a beautiful building or any other found object at all for that matter.

And, as you say, it is a wonderful way to share art that may never be seen in person.

    Re: Fun with the RX-1

Some find native American Rock art boring.
When you consider it is 600 or more years old and a window into the
Mind of the artist I don't see how anyone would then consider it boring.
    But each to their own.
The other reason I posted these images was mentioned.
Many of these locations are quite remote and most people would be unlikely to ever see them in person.
Thanks for your compliment by the way.

The magic of the Rx1. It just has a certain 'look' to my eyes and I keep finding, for lowlight concert photography, If I take the A7R MII, A7, or A7S, the RX1 keeps giving me better output.

You will read about it not focusing in lowlight, and being very slow in operation, ect. All I know is it is very easy to use and it bangs out shot after shot after shot. It remains my goto camera for lowlight concert shots, over the A7S and A7R, though those work really well also, but the RX1 just has a magical look in my eyes.

My RX1 is also one of those special cameras. I feel like a hero when I use it.

But, I do get better images of my kids with the Eye Detect AF and 35/1.4 FE on my A7r2.

Lucille - I must say those two concert shots... they are pretty nice! And good tonality. And JPEG! yes! :-) I used to shoot JPEG a lot in old 4/3rds.

Question: for the 2nd to last shot- did you crop? If so by about how much? I am curious to know how close are you getting to the performers.

I rarely crop and when I do it is very minimal simply cleaning up a edge.

I do use the digital zoom which is a in camera crop. I have it mapped to a rear button, hit it once and it zooms to 1.4 which I think is 50mm, hit it again and it zooms to 2.0 which I believe is 75mm. It may hurt quality if you pixel peep at 100% I suppose but I don't care as it still gives me a killer RX1 image with that look.

The fact that the Rx1 can do this makes it more versatile, often at these venues 'professional' cameras are not allowed, but they never take issue with my tiny point and shoot Rx1. So since I can't switch lenses I will use the digital zoom and frame a image properly as opposed to make a big crop from the original 35mm file.

Now, I shoot locally for many Artists and I have stage access and am often found onstage getting a image that most wont, notice me onstage to the right of the frame:

    Re: Fun with the RX-1

Picked up the RX1R a couple of weeks ago. It's not as pocketable as I had hoped to be, but I have been spoiled with the GR.

Here is a quick shot of a storm over Brooklyn and Manhattan this afternoon.

    Swiss Baker

This is an RX1R outtake from my one-and-only stab at time-lapse photography. The Swiss Bakery (local, awesome) let me come in one Saturday at 4:30 a.m. to try to capture the hectic but controlled madness of getting ready for their crush of weekend morning business.

Their dress is characterized by their red caps - all employees wear them. I used this shot as a prototype for processing the thousands of frames in the time-lapse. I liked the look and went with it. All in all it was a completely experimental project for me.

    RX1R, ISO 160

The time-lapse itself was shot with an Olympus E-M1, the camera I used for the year+ waiting for the A7R2 to appear. Believe me, time-lapse is right in the wheelhouse of the E-M1.

The bakery loved the final product but my conclusion was that these projects are just waaay too much work. I'd rather just stare at a nice still photograph.

    Cheers,
