Sony Vario-Tessar T* FE 24-70mm f/4 ZA OSS Lens

This is the next lens after the 55mm and the first zoom. I really have great hopes for this, as it would make a convenient travel lens. However, there are significant concerns when I compare the ZA zoom with the relatively new Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS, particularly filter size. The Sony-Zeiss is cheaper than the Canon by $300.

Canon:
Minimum Focus Distance 1.25' (.38 m)
Magnification 0.21 - 0.7x
Maximum Reproduction Ratio 1:1.5
Groups/Elements 12/15
Diaphragm Blades 9
Filter Thread Front: 77 mm
Dimensions (DxL) Approx. 3.28 x 3.66" (83.4 x 93 mm)
Weight 1.32 lb (600 g)

Sony Zeiss:

Minimum Focus Distance 1.31' (40 cm)
Magnification 0.2x
Groups/Elements 10/12
Filter Thread Front: 67 mm
Dimensions (DxL) Approx. 2.87 x 3.72" (73 x 94.5 mm)
Weight 15.17 oz (430 g)

I suspect that vignetting and corner performance will need to be "enhanced" significantly by the Sony A7 or A7r in camera. The lower weight is great, but there is a big difference in filter sizes. The Sony lens barrel is slightly longer and narrower.

Sorry, but why is the filter size a concern ?
And what other significant concerns are there ?

Thank you for the information, always good to keep a close eye on the competition ... :)

Kind regards.
