Rokinon 14mm "e mount"

Several months ago Rokinon announced they would be one of the first third party vendors to offer an E-mount full frame lens. That was the "good news"

The "not so good news" is that while they fulfilled that promise they did it by adding an adaptor to the lens body thus adding several inches to the overall length. I knew this beforehand and nevertheless ordered one from Amazon which arrived yesterday. The questions are, is it any good? Is it worth the added length and weight? And slightly more importantly, is it worth the $430 (shipping and tax included)?

I played with it last night and some this morning and my immediate answer to all the questions above is.... Yes. Granted I've had a very limited time to get used to the lens however it feels good in my hands then again I just finished testing all those medium format lenses; it is much longer/larger than my 35mm and 55mm FE lens.

I've found it to be an easy lens to use and it appears that if I do my part correctly it is capable of producing sharp images.

I'll be using this more later this week in Carmel and again in Valley of Fire as I work my way hoe to Tucson so stay tuned to more.

Oh and I'll tell on myself here - I screw up! I was so involved with focusing that I completely forgot to use the aperture ring on the lens. All the samples were shot wide open at f/2.8. Rookie mistake for sure.....

Don I had this lens in a Samyang version ( same product different name) for my Nikon. It's really a nice sharp lens. Its distorts like a mother but a easy fix with PT lens plugin. Great fun lens to have in the bag. But watch its wide. Lol

I had heard these lenses were sharp so decided to take a chance. Not too pleased with the way they did it but understand the need for the adaptor. It'll be nice once lens makers catch up and offer FE lenses without the need. I'd like to keep this as small as possible.

How are the corners? Seriously thinking of this lens for commercial work if I can correct the distortion but I need good corners.

Ben, I'm a landscape photographer and while corners are important I can sometimes "get by" if you know what I mean. If you let me know what you'd need ie distance, lighting subject I'll see what I can do.

I plan on going through Joshua Tree Park Thusday on my way to Carmel and will be using it there, likewise while in Carmel and then again in Valley of Fire on my return. I'll post more along the way and pay more attention to the corners....

Ben, just did this in the rear yard. Corners look good to me...
Forgot to add, f/8 1/500 ISO 50

As noted, the distortion issues are easily corrected in post. I don't make a habit of shooting ultra-wide but on a whim, bought this in A-mount for my A99 a while back. It's a ridiculously sharp piece of glass, and it set me back all of $350ish. Haven't tried any of their other offerings, but it would be interesting to some of them a go. Samyang is supposedly on the cusp of announcing AF versions of their lens lineup.

I bought the Rokinon T 3.1 version of this lens in Nikon mount last year and use it with the A7R, Novoflex adapter, and ASAT-NEX tripod mount (fits perfectly on the adapter). I would have picked up the E mount but extension is too wide for the ASAT-NEX so I opted for the N mount instead. Corners are very good.

No trouble Ben glad to help.

While I'd like a lens that doesn't need an adaptor (thinking overall size) I'm pleased with this one.

I had added this thread as while I could find all sorts of comments on the lens itself in the various mounts nothing had been written about or shared with the newer e-mount. Plus I'm getting better at the camera porn :).

Thanks Guy! Being such a cheap lens is their significant copy variation to worry about or should I just shut up and read the thread you posted? (waiting for the kids to get into bed :) )

It's one of those lens the more you use it the more you like.

I'll be in Joshua Tree National Park tomorrow and am looking forward to trying it out. Believe it or not I've never been there before!

Just got the Nikon-mount version to use on my a7R. It's quite a remarkable lens for $350.

Here's a couple from my lunchtime walk. Shot at f5.6, distortion corrected with LR profile.
