Re: Fun with the Sony A7 Series Cameras( all of them)

The Abbey of Saint-Maurice also features a little museum where its treasure is exhibited. It contains mostly cult objects (censers, chalices etc.) and reliquaries that were gifted to the monastery by powerful people. Recently, the museum was revamped and securized and while the museum was closed, the most precious pieces were lent to the Louvre Museum in Paris where it attracted quite a number of visitors ( more here :Exposition - Le trésor de l?abbaye de Saint-Maurice d?Agaune | Musée du Louvre | Paris )

Below are a few objects, first a reliquary, then a censer; they are neither the most precious, nor the most famous, but I found them charming :

i'm very envious of that Batis lens ! How do you like it ? I have ordered one a few months ago, but none has it in stock here. A brick and mortar shop told me : not before the end of December.

I clearly prefer the color version you have shown three days ago #6980 to this B&W one. Not sure how to describe it, it seems to have more soul in colors.

Well, both Batis lenses are spectacular and i like both but i think i will use the 85 more, just a personal thing. I love the rendering of the 85 and it's little curly bokeh.
I was very lucky to get both lenses within a short waiting time at my local dealer, he did a great job finding them.

    Cheers

It is a good lens especially the range is ideal for traveling.
I only took 3 lenses to Paris, the Contax N 24-85, 70-200 (also very good better then the C/Y version) and the VC Nokton 50/1.5 for low light.
The 24-85 is a bit fat I really didn't need more.

IMO the C/Y 35-70 f3.4 is the high quality bargain zoom for A7 series. Not the 28-70, which was a kit lens, but the one that competed at par with the Leica R 35-70 f4 (again, not the kit lens).

They sell for only about $350, render in the classic Zeiss way, and were rated as highly as their corresponding primes.

Another picture taken in the basilica of the Abbey of Saint-Maurice.

Former there were numerous lateral chapels in the basilica, because each monk had to celebrate the mass each day individually. Now they can concelebrate, so the lateral chapels are no more needed; they have been suppressed and a new intimate place for meditation has been created instead. I find that the contemporary sobriety of that place is really inviting. There is a particularly soft light and I like both the lamppost and how the cross in front is just projected on the wall.

Beautiful concept and execution, Barry. It also makes one realize just what that 35mm 1.4 can do!

I know you like to grumble about all of the "old stuff" in your neck of the woods, but I'm truly envious when I see some of the subject matter that you, Michiel, and Annna have been posting. I recently relocated to Nanaimo, British Columbia, which wasn't even incorporated until 1874!

Thank you Tom and Michiel, always highly appreciated both your comments
Tom, the 35mm FE Distagon is a fantastic lens! - It renders WO with a 3D look that makes you want to walk right into the image, it’s always in my bag despite the weight and size.

Alison and I managed to grab a couple of days break up in Gloucester where we met up with Ron Pfister, who had Ezra in the dry docks for repairs. We all had an excellent time in this historic city.
Gloucester Cathedral is a masterpiece as you say Michiel, it’s very old with it’s origins dating back to 679AD Timeline Gloucester Cathedral | Timeline
I guess it’s that time of year with the weather being what it is, of staying dry and shooting Cathedral interiors it seems...I took about 800 images so you will all be inflicted with one or two more
Michiel, love all your recent Cathedral shots on Flickr, superb work my friend and likewise over on the medium format image thread

Both shots were taken last summer, a few moments apart in the field above my childhood home. It was one of those situations where I didn't recognize my mood at the time of capture until much later. If that makes sense...

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 Series Cameras( all of them)

Here the snow made a short appearance yesterday, the first of the season and today was freezing cold, not very conducive for photo outings. But looking through past pictures, I found that one shot in past October as the first leaves were just beginning to turn yellow. This is a half pedestrian street in the center of the city. They have designed a tortuous path for the cars which are limited to 30km/h while the coffee shops and restaurants enjoy large terraces shadowed by wisteria during the hot season.

After the last firmware updates on the A7II and the Metabones adapter, the Canon 85/1.2v1 can AF fairly well. This is wide open, cropped a fair bit - about 1/3 of the area of the original frame. More CA than you can shake a stick at:

Crikey Pieter!...The thieves in your neck of the woods must be pretty desperate if you need to use a chain like that just to protect a spoke
