It was a full moon Christmas (shots were taken on 23rd when the skies were clear enough). All the best to everyone!

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 Series Cameras( all of them)

The light was incredible this night. I couldn't resist taking another shot of the city. Well I resisted about two hours.. But being still awake, I finally gave in, although a little too late : this is why the lighting of the castles was already spent. If the moon light looks that good tomorow, I will try to snap another one with the castle fully lighted.

In between I hope you all had a great Christmas feast with your loved ones.

Perils of uncompressed files: I planned to stitch these files, but forgot to switch from uncompressed to compressed – or alternately I forgot to use DNG converter to make lossless compressed files. So the original stitch was 2.55 GB, and 3.5 with some corrections. The file would print at about 20x40" @ 360 ppi. Very tiring for my home iMac with only 4GB memory – I did a few chores while it was processing. Don't do that again, Kirk!

I see that everything is going by two today : two pillars, two birds, two red/orange and similar boats and two towers in the back ! Great catch, great composition which leaves me smiling. What did you offer to the birds (seagulls ?) to get them so well positioned ?

Annna, this is just lovely. I love the way the eyes are directed into the scene by the man-made arteries, and then begin to focus on the stunning natural beauty of the place. Believe it or not, I think it works quite well without the floodlit castles, as this gives the snowcapped mountains greater prominence. Nicely done, and thanks for sharing!

Thank you Annna, those gulls were just waiting for the fishing boats at Polruan to go out! + A bit of patience waiting for them to walk along the top of the beam...Hope you had a great Xmas day...Love those night time shots from your home, it's the colours and the lights that make it!...+ The mountains and the slight star trails....Excellent it all works extremely well...Cheers Barry

I took the boat over from Polruan to Fowey to get closer to this old fishing boat in the estuary, the water was a bit choppy but I did manage to get one sharp shot – Sony 90mm Macro (Tone Mapped)

A striking portrait, Christina. Usually that much blank white would upset me, but here it makes such a nicely balanced composition. And the subject turned 3/4 away really does give a feeling of reflection/contemplation, looking into the unknown. Muted color adds to the effect. Nice to see an unconventional portrait.

    Rich shadow detail, too!

    Kirk

(PS, 45mm is such a nice focal length. It looks like Zeiss is making Batis lenses in focal lengths that don't duplicate Sony Zeiss, so maybe they'll make a 45.)

The old building in the centre of the image just to the right of the church spire is known as “Place House”
This is the ancestral home of the Treffry family since the thirteenth century, the original structure was a fifteenth-century tower, which was defended against the French in 1475 by Dame Elizabeth Treffry.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Place_House It is best viewed and photographed IMO from onboard a boat on the river Fowey as it’s still privately owned and now enveloped by newer buildings (Split Toned).

Annna, our plastic cows tend to just lie around taking it easy chilling out
We find the milk tastes better that way

Your plastic cow made me smile and immediately remembered me of that one which is so incongruously perched and so strikingly red. A perfect antithesis to yours which is well integrated in a refined composition. By rare luck I knew where to find it since I had just opened its folder earlier in the evening.

Those movements/events of "Cow Parade" were started in Zürich, Switzerland, when the "Zürcher Vereiningung" (the tourist office) set up the marketing concept and asked the Swiss sculptor Peter Knapp for a cow sculpture. He moulded the cow from natural museum models. They were all made of white fiberglass and then given to many different artists for decoration. The exhibition/event was first entitled : "Land im Sicht, auf zu Zürich" (countryside in sight, go/come up to Zürich) and took place in 1998. It was an immediate success.

There were more than 815 cows disseminated in the city, about 395 were sponsored and then painted by about 400 different and often famous local artists. At the end of the exhibition, the most interesting painted cows were offered in auction, which brought about 1.4 million. Popular culture renamed the event "Kuh'Kultur". The concept then spread to many other cities, in Chicago for instance, where it was named the "Cow's Parade" and gained an international renown, or in Paris where it became "Vach'art".

You can read more about it here : https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/CowParade (German and more complete version)
Or here in English : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/CowParade

Here is another interesting link on the cows parades :

Cash Cow: The CowParadeâ„¢ | Public Art Review

Edit : that last link will bring you to a short three parts essay on the global "cows parades" event, which is well worth reading.
